The last time I went into a Sears store was over a year ago. The store has not kept up with the times at all. Example, my washer went out and the old one was a Kenmore. I wanted to get another one. The salesman showed me exactly what I wanted and I said I would take it. The salesman said they would set up a delivery date, which was about two weeks later. I asked if they had another one in stock that I could take. They said yes, so I said I would take that one. I wanted to load it into my truck and take it home. They informed me that only deliver appliances, you cannot just load them into your truck. That is a deal killer.
Sears lost my business a long time ago for pretty much the same reason..they didn't change with the times.
I took my business to HD for the big appliances and am pretty happy with their service..both delivery options and their deliver to store and load up my truck.
Do you really think there will be a "boom" in brick and mortar stores which have been in decline for years now ?
It's changing consumer buying habits that is doing this, not politics and not who is sitting in the Oval Office.
Impossible. Everyone knows that the president of the USA has complete control over the entire global economy. If the Dow goes up or down 100 points, the president is directly responsible. If the unemployment rate goes up by 0.1%, it’s the president’s fault. If house prices crash, the president caused it.
Actually, on my Macy's thread, you will find my post stating that I did this for sarcasm and I don't personally believe it's Trump.
But, nononsenseguy, let me ask you this: if we can have thread after thread of economic success stories posted on the Politics and Other Controversies board (and all of them are attributed to Trump, BTW) should we not also be posting stories about areas of the economy that are not successes? Because there are winners and losers in every economy.
I'll ask another question also: If Macy's and Sears announced yesterday and today, that they were opening 100 new stores and hiring another 5,000 employees, would you have credited Trump for that? You actually don't have to answer because I already know what you answer that.
Economic success? I'm still waiting for the recovery and to get the sky high numbers of people on welfare down.
Will millenials be happy when the malls and stores are all empty eyesores and unemployment is permanently at 30 to 49 percent? That is the future of this tech drive world where all shopping will be done online and most jobs are done by automation. I can’t imagine how society will adapt to this, no doubt socialism will be part of the plan along with all its flaws. Also there is so much more to life than a computer screen. Shopping and eating out are social experiences that many young people no longer value. They do not know what they doing to the world.. I guess I am one of those Fred flinstone types this post refers to. This new world the millenials are creating may ruin my retirement years.
Sears Canada has closed every one of their stores in the past few months.
Now holding a clearance sale that few people are interested in going to.
XXX.
Dont fall for it. The liquidators are raising prices to lower them.

Depends on the individual store. ALOT.

Just a thought...
Employees in some of the closing stores are being recruited in store while they work as the Sears store closes. Some have had 5 or more offers. In many areas there is a shortage of people willing to work for chump change that can pass a drug test.

Eddie Lampert IS the worst thing but there is a plan there only he knows. Eddie is as ruthless as they come and mean as hell.
He would ruin a million people if it would make him a dollar, but don't think there is not a plan. He wins no matter what. He already has his initial investments back by multiples.
My guess is two track: 1 Bankrupt it in 2018 or...
2 Should Sears make it to 1 year from today this is my guess.
"Miraculously" the 200-300 Sears left will suddenly be "profitable", quite possibly after he owns the whole thing 100%. In fact it was a shell game all along; shifting costs here and there to make losses look bigger will suddenly shift elsewhere and Eddie will own the whole thing. It will be some variation on this using accounting concepts few understand.
Macy’s has had massive layoffs every year for the past 10 years. Has nothing to do with Trump. Has to do with the shopping culture. Visiting dept stores is a thing of the past.

Don't blame millenials too much. I know many millenials and am a parent to two of them. I don't know ONE of them that hates shopping. My daughter LOVES to go to the mall. LOVES it. When I go to our very busy malls in my area, it has more millenials in it than any other demographic.
But the millenials also value getting necessities quickly. My daughter and son are BIG users of Amazon. Rather than run up to Target for some shampoo or socks, they will use their Amazon Prime accounts.
