This is a great idea. Lot cheaper, too. I remember those blocks of cheese. Do we have food surpluses stored in warehouses? I think that was the case with the cheese before. Waste not, want not.
Regarding #3: Not every community has a farmers' market, and some that do have them for very limited hours. Not everyone would be able to go during those hours. That would mean designating a portion of the benefit for farmers' markets only would make that portion effectively useless for a lot of folks. I could see perhaps adding a similar amount as a bonus for people who buy local produce, though, to encourage healthier eating habits.
A lot of farmer's markets in cities are actually more expensive than the supermarket. That's why I don't bother although there is one within walking distance. It's a 'scene' for the cool, hipsters and celebs. (yawn)
Maybe have a separate EBT card or coupon to be used for fruits and veg only.

I'm sorry yours is like that. Most of the ones I have gone to have not been.
I'm not a big fan of restrictions on what foods people can and cannot buy with their SNAP benefits, but I would rather see a soda ban than this mess.
As I was reading the first few pages, I was wondering why you couldn't ban soft drinks from food stamp purchases. I'm OK with that. Then that does raise the question of whether you ban tea, too. Do you ban the tea mix? Do you ban sugar? Coffee? I'm not on food stamps, but I am diabetic. One of the things I like but is actually bad for me is apple juice. Maybe we should ban apple juice, too.
Then my snarky side said if Trump is behind this, he'd probably allow food stamps to be used at McDonalds. Because if there's one person I want to tell me how to eat, it's Donald Trump.

Like I said, not a fan of any of these bans, for the reasons you have mentioned. But if it would satisfy (and finally shut up) people who have their knickers in a twist over soda, it would be a better idea than this Trump Train wreck.

Agreed. Less soft drinks for anyone is a good thing.
