Nonsense you do not need an AK to shoot a damned deer, my father used to hunt with an old bolt action rifle, my brother hunted with bow and arrow. It's pure nonsense to claim that you have a legitimate need for a semi-automatic weapon, I can accept the fact that you like them and that you enjoy having them but you do not need them.
And all I am asking is that make sure that only people who are sane and know how to handle those kinds of weapons possess them, that's all. And the best way that can happen is to require a permit to buy or own a semi-automatic weapon and have local law enforcement do the vetting for those permits. I'm sure you could get a permit as could 99% of the other people who own guns and frequent these forums but it just might screen out the crazies. And quit manufacturing semi-autos with detachable magazines, grandfather those for people who have a LE issued permit but only allow their transfer to another qualified individual.
And there is nothing those kids at that school could have done to avoid being killed, it's not like forgetting to wear sunscreen for craps sake.
Don't have the link to your statistics but to draw a correlation from them to the school shootings is a stretch.
Then, how is it not a stretch to link school shooting to wishing to violate everyone's 2A rights? NOT every gun owner or potential gun owner has committed school shootings.
In fact, as MORE people began owning guns, both the gun homicide rate and nonfatal violent gun crimes rate have DECREASED, by 50% and 76%, respectively.
Quote:
To play statistician ... you need to factor in ownership patterns and access to weapons. The pattern is not one gun per owner but multiple guns (per news reports increasing sharply) per owner. For as gun-supporters point out, it is NOT the gun that in the end kills but the owner.
Even where *new* owners have acquired weapons, many would not otherwise have done so in a different political environment.
So, yes, you may have INCREASED guns in circulation owned by stable individuals.
The other side of the equation - gun homicides and nonfatal violent gun crimes? Here, you need to control for the decrease in crime per different policing procedures.
The relevant statistics are how many of these "additional weapons" are used for impromptu suicides, involved in accidental home-based shootings, or used for school shootouts - AFTER the crime-decrease is factored in.
So all we need to deal with these mass shootings as a nation is a eloquent sympathy speech from the president, and we're good to go until the next mass shooting.
Not a bad speech - that is if your threshold is just listing platitudes and other empty statements. Most of us who live in reality want more than that from our "leaders."
Leader? We are each individually our own leaders. Only the collective of followers, need a leader to think for their group.
I'm not talking about immigrants. I'm talking about the 10+ million illegal aliens, many of which flee to the US to escape criminal charges in their own countries.
How many illegal immigrants have engaged in mass shootings?
As long as guns are glorified in the white trash and ghetto gangster bum culture, things like this will continue. Poor speech from the President, but he’s one of the weakest orators to ever hold the office.
gun violence happens in far left urban and suburban (rich communities). Rural areas like New Hampshire with a big gun culture have the lowest gun deaths because they know criminalizing guns makes the problem worse (like during the drug wars and prohibition.)
No other president managed to get full g in control like libs wanted. Yet libs are getting all mad over Trump
