“I poked my head out the door. There was a pool of blood, blood was everywhere in the hall. There was still a confrontation going on, there were about three or four people involved at this point,” he recalled to WGN 9.

Thomas said he ran back to his home and grabbed his AR-15 rifle. Moments later, he was ordering the knife-wielding attacker to stop.

And he did.

“I grabbed the AR-15 over my handgun — bigger gun, I think a little more of an intimidation factor. Definitely played a part in him actually stopping,” Thomas added.

The AR15 is the great equalizer. Just like the guy who killed the three criminals who broke into his home.

Know the range of a knife? All you have to be is faster than the attacker by a foot when running away

Amazingly enough not everyone is Chuck Norris or Jackie Chan.
I will take a gun to a knife fight all day, every day.

Actually could have done it with a .38 revolver.
He didn't need a crowd killer to get that job done. So my position on banning assault weapons stands.

You don't have to be. Martial arts is just another form of self defense against a knife.

And yet you guys are always telling us it's not a very dangerous weapon.

I was thinking that too, my husband has a 3rd degree black belt in Aikido and he teaches other students how to disarm attackers.

Technically it's quite easy for a martial arts expert to take your knife away from you.
