They tried various ways to segregate smoking v. non-smoking areas within bars/restaurants and they never worked. The current indoor ban works. Why change it??
Outdoor ban should be implemented where food is sold, including at bars that serve food.
The reason to change it is that it has had an adverse effect of pushing smokers outside into shared airspace.
I don't smoke, but the owner should be free from government regulations to make marketing choices for her/his own business. Let the market decide if the owner made the right choice based on sales and customers.
Now that smokers have been pushed outside by the indoor smoking ban, thus creating a new perceived hazard in shared airspace, AND most affected tavern owners haven't suffered financial losses as a result of banning smoking, could you support a modification to the ban on indoor smoking to allow tavern owners to decide?
At this point, only a small percentage of such businesses would go back.
I am not talking about any other type of business. Only adult businesses, like taverns, bars, etc. And they would have to display proper warning signage on the front door.
As I said in another post, the ban has been extended to outdoor areas in many jurisdictions. NYC is currently considering a sidewalk ban.
If a few bar owners decide to permit smoking, can't you just avoid those bars? It's easier to avoid the inside of a bar than a sidewalk.
