Goes with my theory that bad people will do bad things. Simply banning some weapons won't change anything.
They should ban guns.

You are only half right.

From the link:

According to a report by the Sunday Times, New York City's murder statistics have decreased by 87 per cent since the 1990s.

Meanwhile, London's rate has grown by nearly 40 per cent in just three years, not including deaths caused by terrorist attacks

Hmm? What could have changed in London to cause the murder rate to rise over the past few years?

London isn’t only physically bigger than NY, London is also seeing a small spike in murders this year, and New York is seeing a massive drop. London normally gets around 105.4 murders and had 130 murders, a high few months this year added to a low few months from NYC and their on route to meet around 150 a piece, so they have closer to New York which averaged 290 last year but 329 in the last five years. Not to mention NYC has strict gun control laws, and is the safest major city in the U.S. The drop in rates is almost entirely due to large drops in The Bronx (30 murder drop)/ Queens (30 murder drop)/ Brooklyn (60 murder drop) and smaller drop in Manhattan. Go to 2009-2012 you see an average of 500 murders.

Point is you have to wait for the perfect mix of results to see the same rates. NYC would have to effectively kick itself out of the U.S to hope for the 100 a year that London sees. Using history London will likely simmer down to end below 150, New York will uptick over the summer and end around 250.

But can't they carry tasers and mace spray? While students here in the US are prohibited from bringing guns on the premises, I will see many of them have at least mace on hand in case of bullying or robbery.

I have been told.

Also, it's interesting the number of assaults carried out with knives in London. Knives are heavily restricted with no locking blades allowed. Even my little 2" Spyderco Dragonfly would be illegal.

There were 140 murders in London last year, and London have averaged 170 murders a year over the last twenty years, just because there was a spike in gang violence and an increase inb one months homicide rate does not mean that this will continue. Indeed the Met has just set up an Anti-Violence taskeforce and officers have been working with Police Scotland to examine initiatives that have helped to succesfully reduce knife crime and violence.

Met police chief to visit Scotland for ideas to reduce knife crime | Guardian

It's also worth noting that since since 2002 London's population has increased from around 7.2 million to nearly 9 million, which is the equivalent of a city the size of Phildealphia, and that London Police are now responsible for a larger population than the NYPD.

On top of this the number of tourists visiting London is now nearly 20 million a year, and there are over 400,000 people who commute in to London every day.

As for the latest stabbing figures they are the worst since 2011, and murder is not at an all time high by any means.

Look at the last 19 days in March? In the picture out of the 10 named murder victims 30% of them were white British. London is 40% White British. Not to mention London had a much higher murder rate when it was significantly whiter in the 90s.
