Really? Why do so many locals have to move out of town to afford housing if the great jobs there pay so well?

Liberal Democrats have been in charge of Seattle for a long time too. It's one of the fastest growing (if not the fastest) cities in the USA. Alot of people want to move to Seattle. Unemployment rate there is lower than in many other cities.

Imagine the amount of mental gymnastics it took to actually try and compare Boston to Detroit.

For the same reason so many people move out of the big city. If anything, the abundance of jobs is part of why the cost of housing is so high in Boston. And then you need to understand the geography of Boston. Coastal city. Big coastal cities are always more expensive. And then you have to understand SUPPLY and DEMAND. Boston doesn't have much land. Massachusetts in general is a crowded state. Not alot of land for the amount of people there means a high cost for housing. And get this. It is very attractive to be able to have a very short commute between your home and work. With plenty of jobs to be near, so many people who want to live near them, and not alot of supply due to land constraints, that means a high cost of living. This is why alot of people move. It has nothing to do with the jobs not paying well. It has everything to do with Boston being so crowded and expensive over all. Supply and Demand. Less housing in Boston vs the suburbs = EXPENSIVE!!

Or the amount of mental instability to do this. Now, part of me wonders about Boston, mostly because of it got famous for its racial tensions. However, I will give Boston this. It has a decent economy. It is no Detroit. It has a low murder rate and has become a major hub for technology and the biotech industry. Boston and Detroit have completely different histories and economies. To compare the two is a stupid thing to do.

According to your reasoning, cheap housing = successful area. Thus, Mississippi must be a really successful area because housing there is so cheap. I'm sure you can get a really cheap house in Chad and Somalia, too, thus they must be wonderfully successful places!

I agree its unfair to do so, however bringing up Boston to say "WOW LOOK AT THIS CITY ITS RUN BY DEMOCRATS AND ITS FINE" is a non-argument.
