Because his nuclear site is failing?

Or is there something else.

Why would he? Have the Pakistanis denuked? No, in fact we have given them billions in aid, including planes to deliver those nukes.

Trump's first mistake - although in his world view it's accurate - was to put a murderous dictator on the same level as the Office of the POTUS. He makes too many mistakes to count.....but that is an especially big one.

However, it's not surprising when you consider the friendship between him and the Phillipines leader - who has admitted to tens of thousand of extra-judicial murders and joked about soldiers raping the populations.

It's not a joke.

There are some countries that we ARE on an equal footing with - China, the UK, Germany (and especially the EU as a whole) and even Canada (diplomatically, etc.). Those countries can be treated decently as they are either a BIG part of the world and most all have made strides toward more human rights, etc.

The danger to Kim is from within, his hold on power is tenuous. The Kim family has been able to keep their hold on power by isolating NK from the rest of the world and ruling it with a iron fist. When someone could smuggle the entire archives of the NYT on something smaller than a pencil eraser that becomes more difficult each day.

You have mounting economic pressures and the US could uh... encourage... internal groups looking to remove him from power.

The danger of all of this is does he go quietly. Even if the US and the International community were to do nothing I think it's inevitable there will be revolt in that country at some point in the future and that itself is a dangerous situation for all involved.

Smart move by the President IMO.
Smart move

Trump got played like a harmonica, and NK is laughing their asses off.

Except for the other two times the leaders from these countries met:

2000: Kim Jong-il and Kim Dae-jung
2007: Kim Jong-il and Roh Moo-hyun

It isn't like this hasn't happened before. If Trump did anything to make the 2018 summit occur, it likely wasn't something any different from Clinton and Bush.

Geez. I'm tired of all this winning.

So Trump finds himself in the exact same spot as Obama, except that Trump looks like the idiot he is for ever thinking NK was going to negotiate in good faith. Maybe if he hadn't dismantled the State Department he would have known that from the beginning. Dumbass.

Doesn't matter the merits of the no deals -- just saying -- the art of NO deal.
US should get a good deal or no deal.
Can anyone possibly believe that North Korea has anything to trade with US? They need US; we do not need them.

Obama would have signed anything simply so that he could say he had a deal. In fact he did - in 2012.

I don't think it is a smart move -- it is the ONLY move.

It's not like the United States is lifting sanctions on NK anytime soon.

If anything, it's going to get worse. How long is Kim going to remain cornered by the world?
