They're known for sausages and beer.

I agree with this.

Let's not kid ourselves, no countries really want to kick the military bases out of their country.

They would have done it a long time ago if this is what they wanted.

The French closed all US Military bases in the US back in the 1960's, and in a recent poll a lot of Germans were quite happy to see the US bases close.

After the end of the Cold War, most of the vast US bases closed, and communities adjusted.

Some cold war bases are up to 20,000 US Service Personnel, and were much bigger than any bases in Europe now.

I think the reason the Poles, who have a very strong economy want a US base is because of Russian Baltic activity rather than as a source of income, and that's why they would be willing to pay $2 Billion.

Sadly the Poles don't have the best of histories or near neighbours in Germany and later Russia.

Like I said, if they want to kick the military bases OUT, they would have done so a long time ago. The ones who STILL have military bases want the military bases there, no matter how hard they try to deny it.

True.

If I remember correctly we also have to pay a lease on most bases outside of the country. US military bases are cash cows for some communities, within the USA (often in the south) and outside in foreign lands.

The French did back in the 60's and most US bases did close after the end of the Cold War.

The Germans actually recently carried out a poll which backed the closing of US bases.

It also should be noted that only a few countries in Europe have a noticable US Military presense.

The Americans are okay and I don't mind them having bases in the UK however we are not going to start paying the US to have bases here and Trump's constant threats regarding NATO are starting to get a bit tiresome.

Go see Auschwitz and their Cold War museums and the reasons will be obvious. Two brutal oppressors in the last 100 years - can you blame them?

If the Germans don't want US bases then opening one in Poland that does makes sense if we want bases in Europe. Put them where that are wanted and the country will to pay form them not charge for them.
