Really stupid thing to say. I like some of his policies, but he really doesn't help himself by saying stupid things like this.
It is far more serious than saying something stupid. All Americans should be horrified by the president's gleeful praise for the congressman's assault on the reporter doing his job. One that is Constitutionally protected. This is not something to be brushed off so easily. Look, people, this is the president excitedly retelling, promoting and re-enacting a violent act targeting a free and independent news media.
This congressman physically and criminally assaulted a reporter, lied about it until he heard the audio of it and learned that another reporter ( from a Fox news team) backed up the victim. In normal times he would have been chastised by his own party, national funds withdrawn and shunned. But not in the era of Trump. He was elected and is on the ballot again with the president of the U.S. crowing about it.
Shameful. For all of us. Despicable and dangerous. There is no excuse.

So true. He has no business physically assaulting someone. He needs to follow Maxine Waters’ example and incite others to do it.

Yes, then Trump ironically mentioned law and order later in the speech after praising the violent criminal for that crime. To those objecting to that characterization, if anyone on this thread did what Gianforte did, that's what we would be called by many people.

REALLY?
Exactly where in the Constitution does it state that a reporter or any other member of the "press" has a Constitutional Right to enter a room uninvited and unwanted, shove a recorder into the face of a candidate, and demand that the candidate answer his question? Where does it give the reporter the right to remain in the room after being told to "Get the hell out of here!"? Where does it give the reporter the right to lay hands on the candidate?
While "Freedom of The Press" is Constitutionally protected, that does NOT mean that a reporter has the right to go anywhere and do anything any time he or she wants to.
However, if you believe there actually IS something in the Constitution that gives a reporter that right, please share it with us.

IMO, all too many reporters are lower than a snake's belly. That guy is one of them, IMO.
Since most “journalists” must be masochists — having chosen such a universally despised profession — they probably long to be assaulted by a large heterosexual male.
