When I carry it is concealed, It is legal to open carry here and I stand up for the right to do it, but I don't really see any reason to do it. Except, maybe when hunting.
This has always been my opinion on open carry. I support the right, but there is a time an place when it is appropriate. I say this as someone that has carried a mouse gun in my right front pocket for longer than I can remember.
My concern is with the former half, gun owners who say owning a gun is a very important part of their overall identity. They're almost twice as likely to have used a gun in self defense.
Are we to believe that those gun owners are threatened more often, or could they perhaps be looking for trouble?
I never look for trouble. In fact, I do everything I can to not stand out.
As far as using a gun in self defense, I have pulled my pistol as a stranger beat and kicked my back door. I did not have to fire as the police arrived and handled the situation. But with the sights focused on that door, I would have pulled the trigger if it had opened. That drunk kid never knew how close he came to getting shot.

Well, as I previously posted, just the sight of one kept gang members away from me two different times, when I was working in the inner city.

I never Open Carry, unless I am in the deep woods. I don't want people knowing that I carry, especially criminals. Like you, however, I do support the right.
"About one-in-five (22%) gun owners who say owning a gun is a very important part of their overall identity say they’ve defended themselves with a gun. By contrast, about half as many (12%) gun owners who say their ownership is not too important or not at all important to their identity have used a gun in self-defense."
So the more they love their guns, the more often they feel the need to defend themselves with their guns.
The less they love their guns, the less often they gotta defend themselves with a gun.
I wonder why gun lovers are threatened more often.
Hmmm.................. not me. I have a concealed carry, but don't carry at all, as I don't feel threatened. I will take a handgun in my car when on a longer trip or in a backpack when hiking, but that is it.
I like guns for the history and they are fun to shoot. Target shooting on my farm is a riot; I don't hunt anymore (except hogs in Texas), but prey upon pumpkins and watermellons as well as targets and fence posts.
Most people who say they don't like guns have never gone shooting. It's actually pretty fun. Too often people get wrapped up in the political depictions of gun and gun owners, so they condemn something they have never tried.

So true! I don’t open carry as well. The element of surprise gives you the edge that you may need in a firefight.
