One is my spouse's friend, and his salary is fairly easily to derive based on his position and years of experience, but to tell you the truth, I'm probably low, perhaps by as much as $100k. One is an in-law (I did not know his salary, but my spouse was familiar with his finances.) One is my spouse, so I definitely know what's going on there. And one is a sibling with whom I've frequently discussed financial planning, so I'm familiar with his situation, and he's familiar with mine.

I don't live in Denver. I live in a Conservative and affluent suburb of Denver, and, yes, I am surrounded by Republicans.

Extremely angry rude people are usually far left or far right.

Rest of the Red or Blue folks are good (at least normal) people.

I am so happy to read your post! We live in a small 55+ neighborhood. There is only 1 other couple who are not Republican. Many are REALLY Republican... I’m an Independent, but they treat me like a Democrat. One woman at the bookclub said in front of the whole group that I was “a Democrat” but I could “stay in their bookclub anyway.” I didn’t say anything, but quit that group a few months later. The funny part is that they miss me and my insights about the books. I don’t miss them, though. LOL.

Do you have any insight about why they viewed you that way? I think your experience is very interesting!

I am a true Independent and vote both parties. I really am not sure why they view me that way here. I really wanted to say something back to her but she has a sick husband and was the hostess that day, so I didn’t want to be rude. However, she’s from NYC and very outspoken. No one took up for me, though. Usually, when others in the ‘hood start bashing the Left or making other Right wing comments I completely disagree with, I just look down and don’t say anything. It’s very uncomfortable. My DH is open with the guys here about his left leaning views, so maybe I am painted with the same brush. He is much more to the left than me. I would say I’m center-left. Though I am very anti-Trump, I do not mention that to the people here. (That’s why the City-Data is such a good outlet for my feelings.)

same

I'm careful what I talk about with extended family and friends because it's important that we remain on good terms, and, unfortunately, the President can be a very divisive topic. You won't find any reference to my political leanings on my car or in my yard. The last political sign I displayed was for a friend running for school board, and I am not officially affiliated with a political party. One might get an idea of my leanings from my primary avocation, but most people would not have a clue where I actually stand. My neighborhood is one of the most contested in the district because it has a high percentage of unaffiliated voters, so candidates from both major parties will knock on my door in an election year. I hear everyone out, but I am noncommittal. I do have strong feelings about some partisan issues, but the only place I have ever really discussed them is here on C-D, and my voting record is thankfully anonymous.

I live in Broward county which is majority Democrat but you have to live in their areas to be near them. If you move into the more affluent areas, you are surrounded by Republicans.
