I live in the Seattle area, which is extremely conscious of environmentalism. Every week it seems that there is a new story about the effects of global warming. Last week it was the disappearance of sea urchins. The week before, methane gas bubbling up in the arctic. This week, there is a front page story in the Seattle Times about "Orcas in Peril."

Automotive racing of all types, whether it is car, truck, or motorcycle, serves NO earthly purpose. Someone estimated that ONE driver, a guy named Jeff Gordon, has driven almost 300,000 miles in races alone. That is one guy, and does not even count his practice driving, or his driving getting to and from the track.

No earthly purpose to it, and all the while generating carbon emissions. Wouldn't it be a great idea to ban it? I would not even allow emissions-free cars such as the Tesla to race, since there is no way to tell whether the electricity may have come from coal. I'm completely serious here--I'd ban it all.

As fast as electric cars are these days they could be raced with no impact to the environment.

So you hate NASCAR and find a silly way to cast shade on it.

How about going after all the environmentalist Hollywood Celebs & Politicians who fly around in private jets? Ahh yeah, that.

One private jet will belch out carbon emissions than entire year of NASCAR racing, and then some.

You might as well ban ocean-going transports, they pollution they create is several thousand orders-of-magnitude greater than anything produced by racing.

Gee, why not ban baseball and football too? Especially baseball with 162 games plus post season play, look at all that travel between cities, fans going to and from the stadiums, and with all the night games lit by electricity that we have no idea about how it was produced?

LAWL, What do you think the rare earths being mined on the other side of the planet by slave labor to support these cars in the worst of conditions is doing to the environment?

If you aren't trading out the batteries every 10 minutes, it would be a very very very short race. (or a very slow one)

Oh and yeah, they are being powered by fossil fuel burning power plants.

Yet, it takes diesel powered equipment to mine the lithium for its batteries. Diesel big rigs to haul it to be processed. Diesel electric trains to transport to retailers.
It takes destroying the environment to a whole new level.

Coal and gas plants to make electricity. Or nuclear.

Also the fun fact lithium and cadmium are highly poisonous when they combust.
Oh and then there's the whole recycling thing...

So, we should put some of that on the many NASCAR owners and drivers who travel to races by private jet, right? And let's not forget cleaning up Jack Roush's crashes.

Baaaaaaaaad example!

Baaaaaaaaad example!
Speedy dry is quite effective at cleaning up oil and coolant. So too are pig mats.
