Automotive racing of all types, whether it is car, truck, or motorcycle, serves NO earthly purpose. Someone estimated that ONE driver, a guy named Jeff Gordon, has driven almost 300,000 miles in races alone. That is one guy, and does not even count his practice driving, or his driving getting to and from the track.

No earthly purpose to it, and all the while generating carbon emissions. Wouldn't it be a great idea to ban it? I would not even allow emissions-free cars such as the Tesla to race, since there is no way to tell whether the electricity may have come from coal. I'm completely serious here--I'd ban it all.
Uh, as long as the USA keeps bombing the hell out of the Middle East, and God knows where else, and keeps placing industrial plants in Mexico and South America as well as China and India with no regards to the environment, I really doubt banning car racing in the states is going to make a lick of difference.

Limiting leisure air travel would do a lot more to help the environment than banning the sport of racing. Also increasing telecommuting so there would be many fewer cars commuting to work.

Why don't we ban every wealthy global warming activist from flying private jets, owning diesel guzzling yachts and mansions that have 20-50 times the carbon footprint of a typical home?

The top 1% have 80% of the wealth, they also use 80% of the energy.

A large number of the posts in this thread are examples of the 'false dilemma' logical fallacy.

Quote:
A false dilemma is a type of informal fallacy in which something is falsely claimed to be an "either/or" situation, when in fact there is at least one additional option. A false dilemma can arise intentionally, when a fallacy is used in an attempt to force a choice or outcome.

Something tells me the OP sees the world in terms of a hierarchy and wealthy globalists wants and needs are at the top while Trump loving race fans are down at the bottom and most expendable.

Same group of politicians in my home town wanted to go after businesses for environmental issues, and in the same day, they turn around and approved of a huge 6500 gated community development going up right near the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Sanctuary in Loxahatchee, Florida, and don't think that will have a huge impact on the environment. They don't care, they just want the revenue that will come with all of them homes being built and more people being shuttled into this state. And the new rules and regulations onto the businesses is for more revenue so they can give themselves raises, and also to give the people some false sense of security that they really are for the environment.

Any expert on negotiating will tell you that skype is not the same as being there in person. These are literally life & death matters we're talking about. Car racing can only bring death, not life. Say, that's one more reason that we should ban it.

Or have a dome where the car has a pole linked up to the ceiling that is connected to electricity, like the old bumper cars at state fairs. Hell, that sounds like a great idea and the kids could join too.
