If we ban NASCAR and other racing, we should also ban all car travel, plane travel, train travel and boat travel. SMH You may want to leave NASCAR alone. The way it's going, it'll do itself in with a few decades anyway. I still miss Richard Petty as a driver.

I missed when they actually raced cars you could buy off the showroom floor.
Last time I checked... Nothing from Toyota came V8 and rear wheel drive unless you count a 2 wheel drive tundra...

Ahh, but we have to factor in all the equipment sent out to carry all that stuff. I'm just amused by those who seem to believe drivers making multi-million $$$ salaries still get to the track towing their race-cars behind rickety pick-ups like in the good ol' days.

Of course I was being snarky. But I also never said they race cars straight from the showroom floor. I just think it's silly to point out racing and ignore all the types of travel it takes to get to these events.

I raced stock cars. On dirt ovals. My pickups weren't rickety though...
That was fun but damn was that expensive.
1 gallon of VP 12 bucks.
I'd go through 30-40 gallons depending on warmups, heat races/qualifying, and main event.

In a weekend, I'd spend between oh.... 700 and 1500.
That's not counting what I spent building the engines, buying the yard ornament Monte Carlo/80s Gbody, (coil spring cars handled far better than leaf spring cars)
Steel for welding up the cage. Firesuit. Helmet. Tires. Gas to tow. The trailer. Etc.

Pig mats also make a good barrier between you and the mud coated pits when you've been spun out and your clutch grenades and you have to throw a clutch in to be ready for the main event. I had to buy my own though.

I know. I'm being sparky too. For real. What ford fusion is V8 and rearwheel drive? What Toyota is V8 and rear wheel drive?

The rules are what's killing the sport. What ever happened to put it to the wood and the best man wins?

Automotive racing of all types, whether it is car, truck, or motorcycle, serves NO earthly purpose. Someone estimated that ONE driver, a guy named Jeff Gordon, has driven almost 300,000 miles in races alone. That is one guy, and does not even count his practice driving, or his driving getting to and from the track.

No earthly purpose to it, and all the while generating carbon emissions. Wouldn't it be a great idea to ban it? I would not even allow emissions-free cars such as the Tesla to race, since there is no way to tell whether the electricity may have come from coal. I'm completely serious here--I'd ban it all.
I bet you are a barrel of laughs at parties.

Dumbest argument ever. Far more fuel is burned and more degradation occurs due to those driving to attend sporting events, than do due to the 24 or so cars that are racing. Let alone one flight of a private jet to go to an "environmental conference" halfway around the world. Should we just ban any recreational events involving large groups of people, for the same of the environment?

Its always amazes me that i have seen so many people talk about the environment and complain of gas prices, and then go and step into their SUV's. Now banning SUV's and Trucks for anybody who doesn't actually need one for work would be vastly more effective. Somehow i don't see that happening anytime soon.

I apologize for not catching the snarky. I watched a lot of NASCAR in the 80s when it was still racin, no g. When Richard Petty stopped racing was when I stopped paying much attention. When Earnhardt died, that was the final it for me.
