If you’ve read the entire thread you’d see that I’ve responded to this question already.

And if you think it’s just a Texas problem, you are sadly mistaken.

I'm still confused how 8 miles of fence turns into 167 million dollars. Who won that contract? I'll create a company right now that will do that for half the price

Ya, I had to walk away from a job I LOVED to do, but could not long afford to do it.
Use to live upper middle class working with my hands.
About the mid 90's that all changed.
10 years later, it was all illegal labor, doing work for 1/8 the paycheck of what I was getting in the 90's.

Cheap is never good, and good is never cheap.
I dare you to find a straight wall or a flat floor in a new house today. I double dog dare you!

It forces migrants to redirect their course, leading them to more populated areas where the resources of the CBP are more effective in capture.

The problem is definitely past the border, just as you said. I live in Austin and we are beginning to see heavy cartel activity here. Lots of bodies beginning to appear. Perhaps that’s why residents of border states like me are a little more passionate about the problem. It’s beginning to affect our quality of life ... 200 miles from the damn border.

That's what I question, can a wall in such remote country really stop migrants unless it's patrolled 24/7/365? And if it is, do we really need the wall? I wonder if from our perspective we can fully appreciate the desperation that makes people go to the lengths they do to get here? As you say, "lots of bodies", I question the ability of a mere wall to stop those willing to die attempting to cross it. Realistically, many Americans won't walk 3 blocks to go to a store, can they truly appreciate how desperate those attempting to cross the border are?

9 times out of 10 Trump and/or his family or associates have some ties connected to the people and/or company that was awarded that contract. Trump owes someone else a favor. That's how his corrupt family works. Ask Betsy DeVos and Miriam Adelson.

I’m a firm supporter of Everify as well. It’s way past time to make it a federal mandate.
E Verify was on the calendar and had the votes to pass a couple legislative sessions ago. HEB and Bob Perry sent their lobbyist to the Capitol and stopped it.

If consumers would stop supporting the businesses that employ illegals, no wall would be needed. It would be much cheaper, too.

You obviously have not seen the deleterious effects of illegal immigration up close and personal in your community. Thus, your remark is irrelevant.

Migrants die every year trying to cross over. The Chihuahua is just an enormous, incredibly rugged, LARGE area of terrain. It’s totally unforgiving. They cross without adequate clothing, food, water, sun protection ... you name it. Every year hikers in Big Bend encounter migrants trekking through the park. Hikers are encouraged by NPS to offer them food and water and then get the heck out of there and go report it to a ranger. You never know WHO you are encountering. People have been killed in Big Bend by coyotes.

But enough of that. Without that wall, migrants would have unmitigated access to enter along 2,000 miles of Texas/Mexico border. It’s an enormous size almost impossible to imagine unles you’ve been down there. It would be impossible to have men guarding it 24/7 unless we literally built cities all along the border for CBP officers and family to live in. There are areas of borderland that can take hours to reach from the closest town - making a regular “shift” by officers impossible to be effective. Adding long sections of wall that force a re-direction of the migrant path is an easier and cheaper option in the long run.

So WE, he American people are on the hook for over 300 million dollars for 14 Miles of wall.
We're paying 20 million dollars per mile for a wall/fence that will accomplish nothing, and never be completed.

It was a silly idea even if we somehow had got Mexico to pay for it, but this is outright theft, and I'm really interested to learn more about who these contracts are being issues to.
