These layoffs are a good example of the limits of The Donald's promises.

You can lower taxes and try to bring back manufacturing jobs, but what corporations will increasingly be focused on is a future of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics - i.e., fewer humans needed. That's exactly what GM is doing here. And others will follow suit.

This would be happening under Hillary just as much.

GM has been very profitable for several years now, they don't need a bailout.

Is there something in the water these days that is causing all the nonsensical comments about Obama?

I don't make excuses for Trump.

I do believe in rescuing our country from it's hazardous path. Just how long do you think we can maintain a service economy where servers are only serving servers? People are demanding better wages (wage growth has stagnated) but all we are doing is a circle jerk with the same money and no new assets.

We need manufacturing to power R&D. If we are not producing wealth and innovating, then we are doomed to share the same pool of money.

You want better wages for more people? Get us out of the circle jerk.

The supply chain that will be impacted will reverberate across a vast amount of business. Many people don't know how integral the auto is to business and industry. Yet, all one has to do is think of the thousands of parts that go into making a car.... that means all those parts developers and producers and manufactures and all the sales and warehousing and everything connected will be impacts.

But, the good news is... IF those supply chain members.. make the modernized adjustments to adapt to the new technology, for the new models that are to be developed. Then they will make a uniform transition for the new modeling of GM....

When New Models do head out, it will take time but the expansion of production facilities will likely either re-open some or build new ones... Therefore... it is best that people continue to find means to say up to date on skill enhancement to be prepared for work in the new age of how industry evolves.

There are many many things that will come along with automated vehicles... new developments, new tech, and even modification to what is a roadway...

Its been coming for more than a decade plus... because computers on-board vehicles have been there now for quite a while.

People should be asking GM... what type of Transitional Training Programs do they offer or recommend....
As well as people learning the tech means of interacting with AI and the expanse of robotics.... Those who do so will be ahead of the curve and better prepared to present themselves for work in the new Generation of what is GM...

Will the laid-off GM workers get soybean farmer-like subsidies?
