The funny thing about Ford and GM is they are doubling down on BIG trucks and SUVS. Ok, until gas prices rise again, there is a recession or there is a push to cut emissions.

By doing this, they are cutting out a huge part of the world demand as well. Not a recipe for long term success.

Lay offs are common in auto plants. Three generations of my family are auto workers. They got good unions and one of my female relatives gets paid pretty good during those periods. It will still hurt hiring, affect their stock price and make people vote different if they are being laid off. All bad news for Trump. First soy farmers and now auto workers, what did they expect? He's not even playing with his own money this time.

Could be.

Could have been just a little campaign to help deflect the blame knowing that GM was in trouble....but you know it just isn't going to sit well with some....especially those swing votes who thought Trump was going to get them all jobs or better jobs.

Auto sales hit record levels in 2016 and are slowing as automakers say they face challenges from both the slowing sales and tariffs on steel and aluminum as part of President Donald Trump's trade war.
2018 was the record year for car sales.

GM is restructuring for autonomous and electric cars.

VW is doing the same.

"Volkswagen says its workers have been guaranteed their jobs until 2028, but because electromobility has fewer production steps, a smaller staff would be required in the long term."

Electric cars will need smaller labor forces. They are not as complicated to make. With autonomous cars, car sharing is the next thing.

I found it interesting, comparing GM and VW. The VW factories are huge: 9,000 workers at Emden and 16,000 at Hanover and those aren't the largest plant. Zwickau is. The GM plants seem to be 2,000 - 5,000 employees.

Silly question: what if the current popular tall wagon SUV takes a dive?
Then the Japanese auto makers benefit from such a dive.

Was? 2018 is not even over, it's impossible to know yet if it's going to be a record.

Great opportunity for Germany to move some of their car factories into the available space now .

The lack of knowledge of business, finance, and economics by the Left never ceases to amaze me.
I don't think so, it's not that simple.

But then, two years into his term, the loss of 15,000 GOOD jobs (paying many times what Carrier did) - that means nothing, right?

And you are amazed?
I know, right? They sure do know how to spin things, and try to gloss over things to help Trump out.
