No company can afford to get that many people employed and idle while a product is under development. Self driving cars aren't going to be available to the masses for many years. The technology just isn't completely there yet.
They have been saying its very close for years, Ive even had Google cars come into my gas station, they were mapping for the transition to self drive, this was about a year ago. I talked to the guys for awhile about it, they said it was going to be like advanced GPS.
They had mapping equipment on the google car, that recorded and measured everything, every dip and square inch of road surface, this is how they are going to implement self drive, every vehicle will have this 'advanced GPS' onboard computer and thats how it will navigate.
They also said once this starts getting close, we would see collaborations between car and tech companies...sort of like, 'introducing the new 2019 Chevy/Google Silverado'
Yes, tariffs are changing the way business is being done. The plants that are closing were supporting foreign markets.The trade war has temporarily closed those markets. However, foreign manufacturers are being closed off from the American markets and will need to increase production here in America. If they do not, then US automakers can fill that void. The consumer has to choose to buy American or pay the increase in foreign manufactured vehicle prices.
Steel plants are opening up here because importing steel has become expensive. Manufacturers (and eventually us consumers) are paying the ramp-up costs. As supply ramps up, cost will eventually go down.
Once manufacturing levels out in favor of the USA, average pay will increase and the costs will level off. It's all one big roller coaster. Focus on the larger picture, not just the hill before you.
If the border does close (including closing off trade), US manufacturers will scramble to find local manufacturing for products. It hurts the US consumer in the short term, but helps the US worker in the long term.
Well one factory that definitely hasn't closed is the Making Excuses for Trump factory
But....I thought America was going to become great again. How can it be great when thousands of people are losing their jobs at once?
But it's not Trump's fault that GM sales are down. But since unemployment numbers are now, they should be able to retrain for other work. Some could move to other areas for manufacturing jobs.
And all the more reason to close our borders and take care of our Americans first!!!!
