Don't we wish. But Mexican's aren't as expensive and corporate America doesn't care if they decimate the middle class so they won't.
While Trump was a fool to make such stupid promises to the rust belt folks; they were fools for buying it.
This is a problem that looms large for this country - Republican OR Democrat and I do not know how it can be stopped.
What seems to always go unsaid in these iphone, foxcon, auto and other discussions is that MOST AMERICANS DON'T WANT TO WORK ON ASSEMBLY LINES AT MIND NUMBING JOBS.
This is not 1950 or 1960. Plus, the number of jobs involved at an auto plant is 1/10 of what it was long ago...to produce the same materials.
I wouldn't want a vast auto plant in my town. No way. I don't want all those workers here either.
I don't want my tax money paying incentives to compete against other states for factories. I want the creme - and we largely have it (tech, life sciences, etc.).

Agreed, in the 1980's GM's Oshawa plant made about 600,000 cars/year with about 25,000 employees, now they make about 300,000/year with 2,500 employees.
China produces twice the number of cars as the US -about the same as the US & EU combined, and is well poised to sell to the fast growing Asian market. No wonder US & EU manufacturers are investing there.
They don't call it "Government Motors" for nothing. Thanks Obama.
GM did receive government bailout funds after the financial crisis, as did many other companies, but it repaid its U.S. loans — $6.7 billion — in 2010.

GM was getting subsidies for every Chevy Volt sold thanks to Obama. The cars cost over $40K to manufacture but had to be sold in the mid $30K range to be competitive to the better performing rivals. That doesn't include the tax deduction buyers were able to take on the Federal return for buying one.
So Trump is going to stop subsidizing a car they plan to stop making anyway?
Typical Trumpian logic.
Also, I don’t believe he can unilaterally stop something Congress authorized. Just more blowhardedness.
Yes, they did. At the risk of being redundant: GM did receive government bailout funds after the financial crisis, as did many other companies, but it repaid its U.S. loans — $6.7 billion — in 2010.
How is forcing companies to relocate to the US "free market"?
Your post doesn't address that statement whatsoever.
