Honestly. He's acting like a hostage taker.
He's demanding something he has no right to - funding for the border wall against the Will of the People, and the Will of the Elected Representatives.
And to force his agenda, he's grabbed a bunch of people and taken them hostage. Those who work for the government and need their low-end pay to make it through the holiday season.
It's as if he's demanded give me this 5 billion or I'm shooting one hostage an hour. Your choice, you want government workers to get paid? Give me my 5B.
And then he sits back and waits for people who have empathy and concern for others (which he sorely lacks) to fold, and give him his ransom demand.
It really feels like anybody not white, heterosexual, racist, conservative, and the right kind of Christian is being held hostage in this country right now. This is a hellish nightmare that I can’t believe I’m living through on one hand but am not surprised about on the other.
Can you guys understand why many will laugh at such hyperbole? Two grown adults (I assume) sitting freely in their homes, online, speaking their minds on any topic they like, and here Clara and Bawac are whinging about feeling like "hostages".
Can you people honestly not understand why such silliness nets such critical response?
I bet you folks were a blast at the office Christmas parties this year. Take a deep breath and grab a cookie.
Great post.
I'm still trying to figure out why we ever employ 420,000 non essential govt employees. They were laid off, but the positions, being non essential, should never exist at all.

What's whinging?
Do you not think he's done exactly that? He's holding low paid government workers hostage, promising to make their lives a misery, if the elected officials don't vote against their conscience and the will of those who elected them.
I don't think that's hyperbole at all. At all.
He's got no empathy, so it's absolutely no skin off his nose to threaten people in precarious positions with disaster so people will fold and give into his megalomaniac desires.

Would that cookie go with the Kool Aid you have been drinking ? One positive out of this shutdown is it is one more nail in Trump's political coffin. Even his own folks are not happy about this one, and his military people are jumping ship over Syria.
It almost seems he is Hellbent on causing as much damage as he can before he is kicked to the curb. "I'll show them !"
Not buying the faux outrage, sorry. There is a great deal of support for the wall, and through the will of the people, Trump was elected on the promise of building the wall.
The people who are most concerned seem to be democrats who favor open borders, globalism at all costs and disintegration of national sovereignty. I could care less what those types think, and they should feel blessed to live in a country run by grownups instead of intellectually challenged misfits like Alexandria Ocasio-Kodak, or whatever, the modern day posterchild for where the Democratic party is headed. A big LOL if you guys think you have a leg to stand on with dopes like that taking over your party. You had your chance, and then you blew it, mainly by fronting one of the most unpopular candidates to challenge Trump. You folks were delusional then, and just as delusional now.

Fewer than a quarter of the people voted for Trump.
So no, the wall isn't the will of the people.
It's the will of 25% of the people.
And apparently that's not enough to give him his funding. So, he's taking people hostage to get what he and his 25% want.

What is whinging? It's what you're doing right here, right now. Wringing your hands and exaggeratedly mincing over a situation that is most likely not even affecting you personally. If it is, do something about it other than whinging on the internet. That advice by the way is free.
Trump is not holding anybody hostage. Gov't shutdowns are part and parcel of holding a government job. Every single government employee has the free will to go into the private sector if they don't want the risk. They will be compensated fully upon reconciliation and their lives will go on. So will yours.
