I'm not sure Trump has any logic to his thinking lol.
He seems to think that Congress works for him and gives him exactly what he wants... or else he throws a temper tantrum. I hope the House Democratic Caucus teaches him a real lesson in the next 2 years, it'll be fun to watch indeed.
Trump will not be here for another two years and he knows it so he's digging in now while he can in order to solidify a clueless base.
Trump is holding onto this maniacal wall obsession to deflect from the real elephants in the room and to appeal to his base because it's all he's got left to keep them salivating like Pavlov's dog and in his corner. He knows he has one foot out the door...bone spurs and all...if he ever had those to begin with.
I've seen it said elsewhere that Mr. Trump is pushing the wall because it is something that he can put his name on, and be remembered: "President Donald J. Trump Built This Wall."
Fixing highways? Hard to put your name on. Repairing bridges? Hard to put your name on. Fixing Obamacare? The way Mr. Trump and his supporters want to do it, it is embarrassing to put your name on. But a big wall? That he can put his name on. I have no doubt that should the Wall be built, it will be emblazoned with "TRUMP" on the American side. Every hundred yards.
To which some clever graffiti tagger will add, "SUCKS." Every hundred yards.
If the Senate passes this funding bill and Trump vetoes it, the shutdown will be entirely on him and not even his most dim-witted supporter will be thinking otherwise. His autocratic arrogance should no longer be tolerated by anyone.

The new House Democratic majority voted Thursday to end the partial government shutdown but brought Congress no closer to resolving the impasse over President Donald Trump’s demand to pay for a border wall.
The House voted 239-192 to pass the first government spending bill, H.J. Res. 1, which would reopen the Department of Homeland Security through Feb. 8 to allow time for continued talks on the border wall. The chamber then passed a second measure, H.R. 21, which would open the other eight shuttered cabinet departments through September, on a 241-190 vote.
Republican Representative Mark Meadows of North Carolina, a close confidant of Trump and chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, predicted that the shutdown would last for months.
Representative Meadows is being awfully blase about forcing Federal workers to bear the brunt of the shutdown’s effects. More than 450,000 “essential” employees are working without pay, including law enforcement, border patrol agents and airport screeners. These workers received paychecks at the end of December but will miss their next checks on Jan. 11 unless the agencies reopen. Among the agencies affected is the US Coast Guard. Meadows expects law enforcement and the Coast Guard to work for free for months on end because Trump wants to engage in a temper tantrum over his damned wall? Maybe Mexico is going to cough up the money to pay the wages of all those government workers?

There is absolutely no point to Democrats having the House.
They will never get their way, because they aren't willing to compromise.
They are losers, and will lose again in 2020.

Well, I guess it speaks volumes about what 1.6% of his voters think... they only need 98.4% of them to chip in their $80 each!
