Trump knows this isn't about the money or the wall, it's about winning. Trump will get some money for border security before this is over.

The money for border security will be poured at his feet.
Just none of it earmarked for a wall.

I've said many times that the wall is a symptom of frustration over the failure to address illegal immigration. It's a straightforward simple step that could be taken immediately that, while not singlehandedly solving it, would have a significant effect on reducing and deterring illegal immigration. If congress had done their jobs decades earlier there never would have been this call for a wall.

What other steps do you think are *more likely* to be implemented sooner that would be as effective? What I am not agreeable to is kicking the can further down the road and putting off *action* while it gets debated another two years. Either get those other measures implemented NOW or get to building the wall NOW.

Bad bill. DOA.

Any CR must include enhanced border security money.

What the House passed was rubbish.

With all the Putin boot licking and all the sniffing during his border crisis address from the white house it wouldn't be suprising if people started referring to Trump as " Comrade Cokehead "

It doesn’t need a cent for it if Mitch would get off his ass and let the senate vote.

What do you think Trump is "winning" by this tactic? Certainly not the majority of (American) hearts and minds.

Most who are knowledgeable about constructing a wall or fence of this scale have estimated it would take around ten to fifteen years to complete the project. So "building the wall NOW" is not possible.

Other measures have been supported by most Democrats and a growing number of Republicans since this boondoggle was first proposed: better enforcement of legal employment of non-citizens and calling illegal employees - and employees - to account, better surveillance at the border, simplifying the massive red tape required for someone seeking to enter legally for work or as a refugee, and so on. Far easier and less time-consuming than the proposed wall or fence, and easier to change to meeting changing conditions as time passes, should that be necessary as it likely would be.

Apples and oranges. Surrendering to Trump's pet project, poorly conceived and poorly planned and clumsy and time consuming as it is, has nothing to do - or should have nothing to do - with keeping the government shut down for one man's ego. Despite his recent comments about his "absolute right", he is not the emperor of the United States. Shoot, America hasn't even had a king since George III, and even he didn't have absolute powers, not even over the American colonies way back when. But it was his assumption of unwarranted power that led to his ousting from these shores, and Trump would do well to learn by his example.

He was duly elected by the citizens of the county do do exactly what he is trying to do. He is not even close to acting as an "emperor." YOU make false claim.
