Attorneys for Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin say former Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis violated the civil rights of same-sex couples when she refused to issue them marriage licenses and is now on the hook for $225,000 in legal fees.

Davis made headlines in 2015 when she refused to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples following the Supreme Court ruling that made gay marriage legal.

Quote:
“Davis had an independent and sworn duty to uphold the law as an elected county officer,” Bevin attorney Palmer G. Vance II said. “If fees are awarded, they must be the responsibility of the Rowan County clerk’s office, which should be deterred from engaging in conduct that violates civil rights — and leads to costly litigation.”

I'm so glad this bigot is going to suffer for her actions.

It's unfortunate that the county has to pay on her behalf, but they are the ones that elected the turd blossom.

The county didn't refuse to issue the licenses, Kim Davis did. There were other clerks in that office who would have issued the licenses, but Davis refused to allow them. This is all on her. She should be made to pay.

She lost her reelection bid. That's all the voters could do. They should not have to pay for her breaking the law.

The county clerk didn't remove her at the first notice of her blocking the requests, so the argument could be made that they tacitly approved of her actions.

Sweet, now we don’t have to pay multimillion dollar settlements for police brutality. They should sue the cop directly. Win for taxpayers.

Wonder what compelled Bevin to change his mind?

They can crap in one hand and wish in the other see which one fills up faster. Christians will be persecuted even more before a final solution is found to the problem of cultural marxism.

Lol, treating gay couples fairly has nothing to do with cultural Marxism.

What you call a bigot was someone who chooses not to violate her religious believes. You scoff at that notion and her religion and that makes you a bigot too.

If she was incapable of doing her job because of her religion then she should have quit. The taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for it.
