So a pedestrian, minding his own business, could've gotten murdered for "talking back" to a gunman apparently looking for trouble. But Heaven forbid anyone suggest confiscating this lunatic's firearms.
Of course, here in Florida he'd probably claim he was Standing his Ground against the pedestrian.
For entertainment, I watch a lot of road rage videos on YouTube. In many of them, the instigator is someone driving a truck. I don't know what happens to them when they get behind the wheel of a truck, but they sure do act like they own the road. What's the best part is, they are usually the ones in the wrong - and they have their dashcam recording how stupid they are.
Turns out the police thought the driver was "rude" as well.
Quote:
790.10 Improper exhibition of dangerous weapons or firearms.—If any person having or carrying any dirk, sword, sword cane, firearm, electric weapon or device, or other weapon shall, in the presence of one or more persons, exhibit the same in a rude, careless, angry, or threatening manner, not in necessary self-defense, the person so offending shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.
Cape Coral has really changed, and not for the better. When we moved there 30 years ago, it was a nice bedroom community with well kept homes. Then, the affordability of living there began to attract a lot of people who brought crime and trouble with them. We moved out about 20 years ago, and hate to see how it has gotten since.
The problem with regular citizens packing heat is that it can be too easy for some argument to escalate to the point where you pull your weapon, instead of just walking away. This guy in the story is a perfect example of that. His gun made him 10 feet tall, and he had to flex his muscles.
Well, that one is shockingly easy to understand why but there is no political will or $$$ to address it.
There are states with huge % of the population owning guns and they have gun violence rates similar to Canada.
So, what is the problem in the US?
Predominantly it's poverty, drugs and gangs with the vast majority of gun violence occurring in this country in a relatively small number of zipcodes.
Chicago for example has neighborhoods just 3 miles apart with all the same laws, police etc. with gun violence rates 30x higher per capita than each other. People with jobs and a future aren't out running around dealing and shooting. Per Chicago Police 80% of the vicitims of gun violence in their city are involved in gangs\drugs....or around 400 per year.
As for stopping the school shooter types, sadly you can't. If they'd don't use a gun....they use a moving van....or arson....or something else.
I live close to Parkland where the shooting happened February 14th, 2018. A gun is different from a van, arson or something else. Students went into lockdown and still got shot in the classroom. Students on the opposite side of the building running away from the shooter on the third floor close to the stairway still got shot by the shooter. Multiple people. It is very hard to drive a van up to the third floor. It is very hard to throw knives through doors and walls to reach students in the classroom.
If a car suddenly stopped in front of me (it was obvious that was intentional in the video), I do not stick around to find out why. I would have pulled around that car and drove a way. If he had a gun, my chances of getting away safely drop compared to him pulling out a golf club. A gun makes a person's reach much, much longer.
