How is it fake news? In both cases the stories were followed where they led. If it was fake news, then the other half of the story would have never been reported.

And we have to stop giving the political pundits on the main stream media outlets -- including Fox, Talk Radio, etc.....credit for presenting news.
They don't. Never have....most don't pretend to - -they own that all they are doing is presenting THEIR opinions.
Maddow, Hannity, Joe Scarborough, Rush -- none are journalists and they are all media.
They don't present the news -- they comment on the news.

The logistics of the attack were just awful and illogical.
I know several inbred racist race joke telling idiots. None of them are willing to be outside in Chicago at 2AM in a polar vortex to spread their stupid.
I don't think, though, that the media coverage of these two things were "fake news". There was an incident involving a Covington student. And Smollett did report an assault. The news covered the stories, as the stories evolved. What is "fake" about that?
These two controversies are nothing new. Things like this have been happening for ages now. The news media gets all excited because what they think happened fits perfectly with their activist-Leftist ideology: There are massive roving bands of racist MAGA hat wearing thugs everywhere and they'll beat the ever living feces out of minorities and pretty much anyone they don't like. They are evil incarnate and there are tens of millions of them. This isn't actually true. It's not even remotely true. But the Left wants it to be true. In fact, they desperately need it to be true.
So what makes these two cases unique? There is a long-standing trend. The Mainstream News Media, Hollywood, Internet Social Media Platforms and other Left Biased entities all blindly jump on every story that seems to confirm their worldview. Twitter and Facebook routinely ban people for wrongthink when somebody says something so outrageous as "But a man isn't a woman." They completely ignore (when possible) or downplay every story about extreme violence and bad behavior from the Left. But at long last, these two cases look like they will bite bad actors on the Left squarely in the butt.
How many times have we heard, "Ah ah!! We've got him!! Trump will be impeached with the week!!" in the past two years? They've been wrong 100% of the time so far. How many fake hate crimes have happened where the majority of Americans still think a real hate crime actually happened?? Every case where a Muslim girl claims somebody in a MAGA hat ripped her hijab off and said mean things turned out to be completely made up by the girl reporting it. Numerous cases where minorities were threatened and racist graffiti was scrawled all over the place turned out to have been done by the supposed victims. How many of those stories do most Americans still believe were real? How many times have people on the Right been assaulted or accosted in public and the news media didn't think it was worth reporting? How many times does a mass shooting not play out the right way and it gets buried and forgotten? For example, 9 more people were killed in the Sutherland Springs church shooting than the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, but how often does Sutherland Springs get mentioned these days in the news or in conversation? David Hogg has been loved and adored non-stop. He gets to go to Harvard for being an anti-gun survivor of Stoneman Douglas. Meanwhile, how many people would even recognize the name or face of Stephen Willeford -- the good guy with the gun (an AR-15 as luck would have it) who shot back at and mortally wounded Devin Patrick Kelley (the Sutherland Springs shooter) as Kelley was leaving the church and the 26 people he had just killed. Willeford likely prevented Kelley from moving on to his next target and killing even more people, but Willeford's story doesn't fit the right narrative, so people tend to forget all about him. Antifa smacked one of their fellow Lefties over the head, leaving him unconscious with a severe concussion in a pool of his own blood. Two Latino-American marines were mobbed and severely beaten by another Antifa group who insisted that they were Proud Boys. Those two stories only barely got reported on and nobody at CNN or MSNBC thinks they're worth talking about anymore. But a high school kid in a MAGA hat who "smiled wrong" is worth hyper-obsessing about?
Smollett and Covington look like they're going to be the cases where the MSM, Democrats, Hollywood and the rest of the Left have their ridiculous bias slap them squarely across the face. The Washington Post is getting sued for $250 million for recklessly endangering the lives of a bunch of kids who did nothing wrong. I hope they have to pay out in full for their horrible behavior. More importantly, I hope they and the rest of the MSM actually learn something. Jussie Smollett is likely going to wind up in prison for attempting to cash in on the culture of hysteria in America. Will the American people take Cory Booker and Kamala Harris to task for blindly jumping to, "See!! This was a modern day attempted lynching!!" Will either of them even bother to apologize for fanning the flames of outrage over what turned out to be a hoax? How many at CNN, NYT, Forbes, Buzzfeed, MSNBC, AP, NBC, CBS, ABC, etc. used the Smollett case to beat their chests and preached to America? How many will admit it and actually apologize for jumping to conclusions without any evidence?
What will it take to get the activists in Media to reverse course and stop the insanity?

I think our problem is that they swallowed a completely unbelievable story and called it Trump’s America, with no skepticism at all. I never heard the word “alleged” once until they got the Nigerian brothers.
Precisely. I don't care which side you're biased towards. When your political bias clearly leads you to take a giant flying leap to unfounded conclusions, you need to do some serious introspection.
Harris and Booker got caught at it. I don't think they're going to even apologize for it. We've seen political bias blind people on the Right as well. Partisan politics makes you stupid and the only cure is to think for yourself more and let your ideology do your thinking for you less.

In my local newspaper, there's the obituaries. No spin there. There's the story of two local high schools getting involved in a fracas during the game. No spin there. There's the story of some street closures. There's the weather. There's the story about how our local representatives voted on legislative issues.
The fake news hype is just about stories that you don't like. And it's just too bad that you dislike so much of what's happening in the world.
