Nobody is proposing the banning of leggings. So let's just get that out of the way right from the start.

But can they reasonably be regarded as immodest and as possibly helping to promote a view of women as a body and not as a person, as many feminists might in other circumstances insist is important for women?

Maryann White seems to think so:

Quote:
Mom pleads with university coeds to stop wearing leggings, sparks backlash

A mother-of-four is facing backlash after penning a letter pleading with female students at the University of Notre Dame to opt out of wearing leggings “and consider choosing jeans instead.”

The mother, who was identified as Maryann White, penned the letter titled, “The legging problem,” which was published in The Observer, Notre Dame’s student newspaper. She started her letter by saying she had been considering writing it for some time after she attended Mass last Fall and saw four young women in front of her “all wearing very snug-fitting leggings and all wearing short-waisted tops.” Some of them truly looked as though the leggings had been painted on them,” White wrote.

The mother said her sons “know better than to ogle a woman’s body – certainly when I’m around (and hopefully, also when I’m not). But you couldn’t help but see those blackly naked rear ends,” White said of the women wearing leggings during Mass. “I didn’t want to see them — but they were unavoidable. How much more difficult for young guys to ignore them.”

It seems to me that these are kind of trashy looking. Of course if you are an student of anatomy and are interested in examining the women wearing these garments from that perspective, perhaps that makes some sort of sense.

Is the word "modesty" now rejected and despised by the purveyors of the Democrat left "Political correctness" mandatory thought and speech codes? They can take those and stick them, well, you know where, at least as far as I am concerned. If the very suggestion that some modicum of modesty is desirable is considered objectionable by these people, that is really a sad and undesirable state of affairs.

Women, you do better than this. Can't you?

This is the kind of kitchen table issue that could take food off the table for millions of citizens.

Good catch OP !!!

I'm going to keep an eye out for long sleeves and their impact now too.

Women do not have to be "modest" to be treated with respect.

Respect is earned, not given. Yes?

No, she is not right and she appears to be a control freak. This is what keeps her up at night?

There is no 'legging problem.' This woman is the problem.

Besides--the students literally HAVE to wear what they want. Trump is de-funding colleges that do not allow freedom of speech. Tell this to the prim Ms. White.

I think some schools have banned students from wearing leggings too! And if I recall correctly, it was all because guys could not control themselves.

It is not just college students who wear leggings, as you surely know very well. And although Maryann White is using these college women as an illustration of her objections, these comments apply far beyond college campuses.

Clearly many people are offended by women wearing leggings. Does it not bother you that so many people are offended by this behavior?
