Agreed. Our immigration policies need to reflect the needs of this nation. The bar is already too low.
I am an immigrant in another country. We could learn a thing or 2 from them.

1. Must have $25,000 in the bank in this country for 6 months before applying for a visa.
2. Must be able to prove a minimum income of $18,000 a year.
3. Must maintain $25,000 in your bank account.
4. check in every 90 days with immigration.
The back ground check etc. are pretty much the same as ours.
The point of all the above is to show that you will not become a burden on the country. WE need this. They do not have birth right citizenship. They do not allow immigrants to have civil service jobs. They do now allow immigrants to vote. They do not allow non-work VISA immigrants to work. If caught you are fined and then deported.
VISA over stays face stiff penalties that are compounded daily. Dont screw up on your check ins.

In exchange for all the above, you can have a very nice life here.

That's not how the free market works. What you are talking about is one side getting their way.

Anyways, the problem is not employers the problem is the American welfare system. In America you can work a minimum number of hours 10-20 per week and still get welfare. WHY? why on earth is that possible? If you can work you shouldn't on welfare..AT ALL. If people were forced to work to actually put food on the table they would be taking these jobs.

That is absolutely how it works.

When there are fewer workers, employers have no choice but to improve their compensation package to compete for those few workers or (as what happened in this instance) fail.

Our immigration laws are already too strict. We need to loosen them up so that more good people can quality. Some of these immigrants may not be rich, and they shouldn't have to be rich, just good workers and decent backgrounds.

We already require a five year sponsorship and many thousands of $$ in application fees, background check, and so on and so forth. But we mostly only allow rich people in. To get in and work at a job, the employer would have to prove that he can't find anyone to do the job. I think they should just be required to state that it's hard to find anyone to do the job and to do it well.

We need to fix immigration so that good, honest people can get in without being millionaires. And keep on keeping the illegals OUT. (Most Democrats do not want illegals btw.)

Or..you could be Russia and just open your prisons and send in your mafia to your country of choice to begin to destroy it from the inside....with the help of a destitute griftrr with alot of alimony and child support bills.

What the fool message that Trump is terified of moms with strollers and flip flops. From a country America destroyed many years ago under another crooked republican. Leave these peope alone. Let them work. Spread them out across the fly over states with all that land. Build the infrastructure and they will assimilate.

The OP doesn't realize it and would quickly disavow their comments, but they have just made a case AGAINST a welfare/ nanny state. Social programs makes americans lazy and workers not having them are superior.
Of course, that's the ultimate goal of progressives and their uber elite masters, to have one class of worker with no social or class distinctions and not even nationalities. When they have that, the social programs they so highly prize now will be stripped away as needless wastes of money.

Well, being as the OP (me) has been working since my teens or before and done every "dirty job" in the book, never taken welfare and started and operated a number of successful businesses.....I certainly am not pimping for a welfare state.

One of things we learn, "we" being those with varied experiences (most people honestly don't have them) is that you must accept the world as it is. The "forgotten man" from Harlan Cty., KY or from WV is simply not going to move East and work for $20 an hour plus benefits. It won't happen.

I have no say on that. You can't chain them up and lead them here and force them to work hard and honestly.

BUT, I do know this. Many of the booming areas of the country (more of them...liberal...but that's not relevant here) are at full employment when it comes to the trades and to service industries. Even the Gov in Florida just stated he won't do E-Verify because they NEED the labor due having no one else to do it!!

So this is reality. You didn't create it. I didn't create it..and I can't change it.

Now, this "kid" - he never would have had 25K or even 10K back 14 years ago when he started. But he created value, paid taxes, worked hard and honorably and added to our economy and society. He was a heck of a nice dude too (I have met him).

We lost out...sending him away.

I'm all for rounding up felons and "bad people" of all stripes, but this just seems stupid. My views have never changed...I support Laws...comprehensive immigration reform in Congress that allows our economy to have the workers we need. We don't have them.

And, as a side note, if any of you want to make a lot of money, come to Coastal RI. People need stuff done and there are not enough people to do it.

Oh, BTW, the Russian and Irish and Polish and other people they import for the seasonal work....NONE of them would do the type of work, nor work as hard, as this dude did. That's a different market...those folks work at the Fudge shops and stuff like that.

Oh, if given the choice, his Employer would have put up 20, 30 or even 50K to sponsor the dude...today! But no choice was given. A speeding ticket and we lost the type of person that this country is built upon.

No clue what anything you wrote has to do with my post.

A nation taking care of its own citizens first isn't wrong. It can be inconvenient to be sure, that is if you are an immigrant. That said there are plenty of us expats here who get why this country is strict with immigration enforcement. It protects the nation from abusers.
Yes there are some illegals here and when caught, they absolutely pay for it.
What is the point of unenforced or poorly enforced laws?
Why should an immigrant be allowed a civil service job before a citizen? Never should happen.
Why should US tax payers be on the hook for the birth of a child by an illegal who snuck across our border like a thief in the night?
We need to raise the bar. We produce a bumper crop of the barely literate and low skilled workers.
