Too much emphasis on diversity on the one hand, but also there's a shrinking majority, where there will be a new majority one day where we will wake up and find mainstream American culture in the minority. We already see it in parts of the country.

Many US federal politicians stay in office for decades. they sell their influence to lobbyists to make themselves millionaires, use their inside information to make their families wealthy, and don't care about their constituents. our long-time politicians' main concerns are power and personal fortune....not public service. we continue to elect these same politicians over and over for decades.

the biggest problem with US politics is American voters.

The problem is the same problem here with trying to discuss anything. Too many people on both sides feel they have to demonize and dehumanize their opponents personally to make a point.

There will always be disagreements on the facts of any issue (See Also: Interpretations of Christianity and the Cheristian Bible), but when financial considerations trump empirical evidence, there will never be a middle ground. To boil it down further, "Greed" will be the one factor I believe will finally spell the destruction of not only Democracy, but possibly the planet.

Correct. Term limits aren't going to do much good - they will only produce other selfish leaders.
Garbage in = garbage out. This is the best we can do.

Hard to argue with this. After all, this is still government of, for and by the People. If our government is bad, we can only blame ourselves.

Still, I am reluctant to label anyone as "garbage people". I have known people who are kind, friendly, generous, decent Christians who have made comments revealing underlying bigotry -racism, misogyny and xenophobia. Although these attitudes shock me, when I look at the whole person I don't see "garbage". It makes for a real conundrum.

Duopoly. Two parties that do not want to cooperate with each other or compromise with each other to pass legislation for the common good but will cooperate closely and fight tooth and nail to prevent a third party from getting established as a viable alternative.

People who don’t pay taxes having a vote which is a clear conflict of interest.
