Most good guys with guns do not harbor fantasies of playing Rambo in the midst of a mass shooting.
The idea that "good guys" should be carrying their guns anywhere they want comes with the implicit promise that conceding to that would make us safer, that they would in fact protect us, and that gun free zones leave us at the mercy of mass shooters. Now I'm being told that most good guys with guns don't play rambo and are only concerned with protecting themselves and their family while dozens are killed or maimed, so remind me again how gun free zones make me less safe?
Let's not imply that they lost hope or cowards... it is stupidity to play hero with all the unknowns and chaos at an active shooter situation. They did exactly what they are suppose to do...
Agreed. It seems we have to arrive at the conclusion that concealed carry makes no difference in mass shooting situation. Anyone willing to bet it will be brought up again - and again, and again, and again?

You have one side that wants to arm everyone.
You have the other side that wants to ban all firearms.
Rarely is the best possible solution resides at either end of the debate... it is a gray middle ground. Sensible people know this... sensible is probably a foreign word to many here on CD which isn't a reflection of reality.
More than likely the first sentence in your post are coming from those that like debate one far end of the spectrum and the later is from those with experience and sensibility. I wouldn't assume they are all from the same camp.

No doubt it will be brought up again and again..
However, at an individual level... being armed might have saved an individual and his family who was directly threatened by a shooter... not necessarily stop the shooter all together... but saved a particular individual/family. I'd still claim that is a difference.
The following is a quote for the El Paso shooter's manifesto. It does imply that being armed is somewhat a deterrent that would cause him to change his actions:
"Remember: it is not cowardly to pick low hanging fruit. AKA Don’t attack heavily guarded areas to fulfill your super soldier COD fantasy. Attack low security targets. Even though you might out gun a security guard or police man, they likely beat you in armor, training and numbers. Do not throw away your life on an unnecessarily dangerous target. If a target seems too hot, live to fight another day."
My take away is that at the individual level, don't make yourself a "low hanging fruit".

Shooter did not expect to survive. He predicted LE or an illegal would take him out.
3000 people inside the El Paso shooting. There is no questioned some were armed.
