Why would PR want to be a State?? They have the best of being citizens of the US and the status of a US territory.

Also, why would we want PR to be a State when they have so many issues that THEY need to resolve first... Seriously, what benefit would the entire Union gain if they're allowed to be a State?? The only thing I can see is that the US would adopt all their corruption and mismanaged debt.

On a side note it's interesting how politic parties throughout USA history have been for or against adding new states to gain political control. Pre Civil War the South really wanted to add fellow Gulf of Mexico slave states to the USA like Cuba. Back then PR would have been welcomed with open arms by Southern Conservatives. Now the reverse is true.
Let the American people decide, not them. They are voting for whatever gives them the easiest go. They will string this along for another 100 years if we are that dumb.

Let them vote too then. But let ALL Americans vote. Does PR become a state or not right on the ballot. And not popular vote, the EC. Let the states decide. PR will probably be a no anyway.

BS... Texas, AZ, FL and the Southwest has a huge Hispanic population that we've gotten along well with for over 300 years.

This show your racism towards Hispanics maybe.

If Puerto Ricans want to become a full fledged state, then we should welcome them with open arms...they are already Americans. The US Virgin Islands could also become a state if they ever wanted.

The question really is... does PR want to become a state? Their last vote only had a 23% turnout (albeit, overwhelmingly in favor of becoming a US state). The federal government is to serve the American people.
They are “ Americans” they serve and die as Americans! The separation is the bias. Why not ask do we
need Missouri any more or Maine. They have not won the vote in Congress to be a State. Still Americans !

What separation? Seems like you're applying your own bias.

No, especially that place. We have enough deadbeats.
