No, making it illegal just creates a black market for it (just like we have with street drugs), if it were not for the US drug laws, drug cartels would be out of business, and legit companies would produce it, which would involve strict regulations and quality control ( no more overdosing because the person didnt know what was in the dope they used).
The ONLY groups that benefit or gain with drugs being 100% illegal is law enforcement and the drug cartels...(its pretty easy to see why they work together!)
