We already had the term "straight" which means the same thing, so why make up another redundant term such as "cisgendered"? Anyone know?

Once this idiot I knew from high school 17 years ago said “ it’s because your a CIS White male” in reference to a political argument. She used it like a derogatory name

She is a psychopath

Wow, I didn't know it was that old.

I figured it's slang because lord knows vocabulary is poor these day and many people would get heterosexual mixed up with homosexual.

Personally I would never us it or "straight" either. Straight can mean too many things. Jesus freaks were called "straight edges" in the last generation.

I like "heterosexual" myself.

I agree, and still think "homosexual" is better than "gay."

Cisgender is concise, whereas straight can be ambiguous. I.e. it's used for scholarly discussions.

Why was the term "cisgendered" even made in the first place?
Because stupid exists.

Cisgendered does not mean straight. It means that you agree with the gender you were assigned at birth.

I've never heard this term being widely used. Outside of "gender studies" bubbles of academia, who even uses this?

To lend the patina of science to nonsense.

Virtually no one.

I travel in all types of circles and probably have never heard it in conversation...just as either jokes or news stories or some meme.
