That people want to compare conservatives and liberals is laughable to me when the majority of the country doesn’t eat well.
I think our overdependance on cars is another factor due to poor urban planning practices.

The fact of the matter is that by any metric the people of West Virgina are A) conservative on the whole and B) are among the most unhealthy people in the country.

So whatever proactive steps the state is taking to make West Virginians more "personally responsible" are not producing results anybody should be using in support of an argument. It flies in the face of his hypothesis.
How do you know West Virginia people are more unhealthy than other people without consulting their medical records.

You are just a liberal who tries to associate things like obesity, lack of education, etc with conservatism b/c you are a hack. It is similar to how you tried to claim UNC students are more artistic than Clemson students going with your premise UNC students are liberal and Clemson students are conservative and liberals are more artistic. That is a baseless dumb assertion and you make these kind of assertions all the time. there's no connection b/t political views and being artistic.

Most poor people are Democrats. That's why your party runs on welfare expansion.

Your premise is that literally everybody in West Virginia is obese and a conservative. That makes no sense given they have a very liberal Democrat senator and leftwing Klansman Robert Byrd was a WV senator for decades.

"Political psychology has long been interested in psychological differences between people with conservative and liberal orientations. A recent paper provides evidence that people with conservative political attitudes tend to have better health than their liberal counterparts because of the former place greater value on personal responsibility (Chan, 2019). This may also be a reflection of higher conscientiousness among conservatives. The author of this study suggests that it might be possible to increase conservatism as a way to improve health-related behavior. However, this seems rather unlikely and might have unintended and undesirable consequences even if it were possible."

It appears that conservatives are healthier because they value personal responsibility more than liberals.

Liberals, what are your thoughts and excuses for this?
Dude...go find the mirror in your mom's bedroom and LOOK AT IT! Now answer who the hell do you think is more healthy and happy? It sure isn't you and the endless troves of simpleton conservatives like yourself.

Anyone pathetic enough to obsess over Lush Dumbaugh, Faux News, that little turd guy Mark whats his name...everything from conservatives is judegement of everyone else, hyprocrisy, whining, complaining, self-pity, rage, conspiracy, its goes on and on.

Hell no conservatives aren't healthier...That not good enough for you.
What are the most conservative states?
What are the most unhealthy states?
What are the states collecting the most money from the government?

Bingo conservative simpletons...They are all the SAME states

This is a stupid argument b/c most of the poverty and obesity in the red states is going to be among Democrat voters. Your party calls us heartless if we don't support your crazy spending levels but then turns around and makes Republicans out as poor obese people. Somehow Republicans are simultaneously rich and poor.

GOP gets shellacked in the poor areas in the red states. It does well in the middle class and affluent areas.

Given liberals have violent riots at college campuses when a conservative comes to speak to Republicans students, it is hilarious you are trying to paint Republicans as having rage.

The violent groups in America have never been Republicans. antifa, BLM, KKK, Black Panthers, Weather Underground, etc, not Republican.

Repubes are full of rage. And you are obviously in full denial of these white nationalist groups that are through and through on the right side of the scale.

GOP gets shellacked in the poor areas...LOL good one. Repubes are poor obese people. They raise a fist to the air swearing about Obama the Kenyan muslin, get hard-ons when Trdump 'tells it like it is', while walking to he mailboxes in their momma's trailer park to get their gov't assistance check. Hurry up get back into the trailer before they miss anything Lush Dumbaugh says....LMAO

Show me where Republicans dominate in poor urban areas. I can run through a map of SC with you and show you that GOP takes a big L in the poorest high crime areas. The GOP in SC does well in the nice areas of Greenville, Charleston, Rock Hill near Charlotte, Aiken, Columbia, etc.

Yes, if people don't have your far left views, they are obese and poor. It seems poor people are more likely to be attracted to socialism which you advocate.

You are so partisan that you will make any hack assertion about people who don't share your viewpoints.

Why does your party say Republicans don't care about the poor and why does your party push welfare expansion if your base isn't poor people.

OP, interesting article. I had actually assumed it was the opposite--that liberals were more apt to be healthier. I assumed they ate better, exercised more, etc.

Since conservatives would tend to be more religious I would think that a good portion wouldn't have to care about their health because death wouldn't be threatening, with the promise of a wonderful afterlife, and a divine power looking out for you.

But what reallt surprised me was this from the article: "Conscientiousness is related to the extent to which one tends to follow socially prescribed norms concerning impulse control, follow rules, be self-disciplined and task-focused, plan ahead, and be willing to delay gratification." I didn't know there even were socially prescribed norms for following rules, be self-disciplined, observe impulse control, be willing to delay gratification. It seems like society doesn't encourage such things or even attempt to follow them. Isn't almost everyone, liberal or conservative, going to pig out on Thursday as if it is their last meal? That's a social norm. Isn't drinking a very socially acceptable norm? Delay gratification? Then why don't more people, including conservatives, have more money saved? Impulse control? How about looking at your phone a million times a day, including when driving (there's a thread about a 50 yo woman who killed a pedestrian because she was texting her sister in law about whether they should later go for Mexican or Cuban food---some impulse control!).

I would think liberals abuse drugs more than conservatives , and drug abuse isn't good for your health.

A lot of health conditions are genetic though, it has nothing to do with lifestyle.

I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma 12 years ago when I was 29 and I never smoked.
