A US Army unit said on Tuesday that they “regret” sharing a colorized photo of a Nazi war criminal on Facebook in an attempt to publicize the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
The Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps, which shared the photo of Joachim Peiper Monday morning, addressed the decision in another Facebook post Tuesday.
“We regret the use of the photograph of Joachim Peiper,” the unit wrote in the Facebook post Tuesday.
“The intent was to tell the full story of the Battle of the Bulge, which will continue here, by explaining the incredible odds that were stacked up against the American Soldier by the time the reserve was called in on 18 Dec.”
It would seem that the Trump effect has really taken hold in the U.S. military, white power is in everyones face now, and to put a picture of Peiper on your Facebook page? Yikes.

I know, right? Such pictures should be expunged from history books, television documentaries, historical websites, etc.

So when we reflect back on the events of 9/11 instead of showing picture of the towers falling or debris covered fire fighters struggling to save lives. No instead we should post this image of Osama Bin Laden. People will get it...
So we can no longer show historical photos of opposing Generals, or soldiers who fought anymore? Are we supposed to forget why our brave men died and fought to win a critical war? This is outright madness.

Pictures of Osama bin Laden are often seen in media. No one objects. He's a dead enemy, as is the Nazi.
I guess nobody deserves to know what a dead Nazi looked like.
by the way, I love to read any articles regarding military history. I've read a fascinating article about 10 top German generals during ww2, I guess in the future, this kind of articles should be labeled as "white supremacist" material as well. Why do people want their children to be dumb is beyond my understanding!

People can comprehend the context of an image in relation to the event its referring to. Why would the US military post a photo of a well known Nazi as its image to remember the Battle of the Bulge? For one, he was the enemy, the second is that photo has no relation to the battle itself. Not only that but the image is recolored to make the man look handsome and well respected. Why not a photo of you know....our soldiers from the battle.
It took all of 10 second to find a better photo.
