How far are you going to take it? You going to push for America to have fitness limits on individuals and fine them for being overweight too? Japan does and look how many healthy people they have.
Yes the foreign makers had them along with a lot of other modern features which is how the USA lost the lead in the market but this discussion is on a basic accommodation for what is a regular occurrence for most families. I don't know your line of work or where you live but there is a good chance people are paying for something that you have utilized whether it is farm subsidies, Federal Contracts at you place of employment maybe some type of subsided health benefit everyone gets something eventually.

To create some basic provision to allow people to recover and adjust to what is a major milestone in their life is not unreasonable or are you one of those who believe to give birth on Friday and go back to work on Monday...

A lot of countries have been pushing 'pro-natalist' policies, of which paid parental leave is an example. They do this largely because of fears about declining birth rates.

When birth rates go below replacement level, which they have in many countries, all kinds of problems ensue. In the US for example, our whole social security system is predicated on the assumption that younger people will keep entering the work force to generate new FICA payments. Without that the system is in danger of eventual collapse.

This has been a pet issue of Ivanka Trump:

It is her first step in building her 2028 run for the Democratic Presidential slot. You watch, Ivanka will move the Democratic party back to the real working class and center left values continuing her father's America first agenda only repackaged for the bulk of the Democratic party. She will sink the Republican party as a result, which will pretty much be done for by then on the national level due to demographics.

You seem to like other countries better, why don't you move here instead of trying to drag this country down to their level? As I define better, I cannot leave the U.S. for a place that I would consider better but you obviously not only can, but you should. Your socialist utopia already exists in various forms in many places. I invite you to go there and leave this country to be unique.
What year was this if you don't mind me asking.

My children are now ages 19 to 25. Currently four of my employees have stay-at-home homeschooling spouses and two of my eldest son's married friends have stay-at-home mothers as spouses. The home school group I teach skill crafts at has about 50 families in it. So it is not like this cannot be done.

So you want Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security abolished?

You don't get to use existing and flawed entitlements as a way to justify more. Just like you don't get to accuse people that are against classifying CO2 as a pollutant want Dirty Air and Dirty Water. It is a very lame tactic, but popular with Progressives.

But that is not true. There is no evidence that decline in birth rates has any affect on the economy or social security.

America is the only nation on earth which provides no paid maternity leave. Embarrassing this country...embarrassing.

Having children is a choice. If you're unable to pay for your choices, don't make them. Businesses and taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for your choices.
