Environmental problems are way more complex than this ^^^. The consumption of products by everyone but particularly richer countries drives a lot of environmental degredation - deforestation in the Amazon basin is driven by the cattle industry which ships beef all over the world, and mining for materials needed for high tech industry to make cell phones and TVs. The huge amount of plastic nano-particles in all of our water is driven by the massive amount of plastic that goes into all products sold all over the world. The decline of fisheries in all the oceans is to feed people everywhere.

Basically, the problems we have are not overpopulated countries but an overpopulated planet. People, all people, have a voracious appetite to consume things and we have exceeded the sustainable amount without badly altering the environment to create more stuff for people to buy. The answer is easy though - family planning and birth control.

And, yes, we shouldn't be passing over Americans in favor of visa holders. Period.
There are a ton of jobs available. But most Americas are too lazy to fill them. So companies are forced to sponsor talent overseas. I see it all the time.

Most jobs are severely understaffed. And many workers in America are working non stop trying to do the job of 3 or 4 people. Every job I've had in the last 20 years, we always needed people.

Without visa sponsorships the few of us who want to work would die of exhaustion. It is nothing for people to be forced to put in 12 to 16 hour days to meet deadlines.

Meanwhile we have a country full of people looking to protect their factory jobs that no one needs or cares about. If factory jobs are dying, then no one should be protecting them. Yet most Americans, particularly those that call themselves conservative elected a president basically promising to protect obsolete and useless jobs.

Yet we want to blame immigration. How about you take a look in the mirror. If you think the government should protect your job, then you're part of the problem. Instead of evolving you want concessions from Washinton

Blame their parents.

The same people that let SS become under funded expecting future generations to pay it off.

It's due to both! All those demands for land and products is directly due to too much population growth. Due to socialism that's why the poor breed more than others because they know the government will take care of their needs. You'll never get most of those to resort to family planning or birth control. It defeats their purpose and many lack self control.

No, we don't! Who's going to pay for the working age immigrant's SS when they retire? What you are suggesting is a pyramid scheme of endless increases in our population to support each new retiree generation.

OK, just pay me back the money that was taken from me and my employers over the years for payroll taxes (with interest, of course).

Let me unpack this.

Yes the most prosperous times, actually two most prosperous times in American history, the 1920s and post World War 2 Eras had limited immigration. Also both eras were post war eras as well. Immigration should fit the needs of aging population and or needs of the economy. The U.S economy is still doing good, no major wars at the moment, and with a fairly young population that is fertile. I don't see the need for more immigration. But their is a caveat. More and more educated women, mainly white and black American women are having kids much later due to career choices, and not having traditional 2.5 kids. Should we allow more immigration to keep with 2.5 birthrate due to the lack of native white and black women U.S economy will do great according to Geopolitical Strategist Peter Zeihan in the years ahead.

Another big problem is automation. With automation coming online, employers and businesses are able to reduce overhead and headcount on jobsites. Thus limit the amount of people for jobs. Service industry jobs will have the biggest affect on automation and service sector jobs are mainly done by immigrants and children of immigrants.

Overall. Immigration should fit the needs of the economy. If the economy is growing than immigration can but utilized, if the economy is in a downturn. Immigration should be limited due to the cause of social upheaval amongst the population. If the economy is prosperous and than declines, immigration should than be limited to merits of immigrants and refugee status. Limit chain migration.

Immigration Moratorium - an issue whose time has come

Nope.
Comprehensive immigration reform comes first. Then we can talk about the number of immigrants we let into the country.

Wouldn’t you define what Melania Trump has done as chain migration? Not only is she an immigrant that became a US citizen but her parents became US citizens too... under TRUMP. So Melania and presumably the Don have personally benefited from chain migration. I mean one can not get anymore blatantly hypocritical than Trump on this. Par for the course though.
