Many westerners post youtube videos about China, and many stay neutral or positive after years.
Maybe it's true that his opinion of China changed with more knowledge, but I think it is a business strategy too. He makes a living on youtube videos, after all.
I wouldn't be watching his videos if I felt that he was just "making money."
I totally could see what he was talking about, and he confirmed my perception of the country, even though I have never been there.
I could certainly recognize certain features of the society I was not fond of, in spite of all the claims of "advancements."
But I digress.
This is not what this thread is all about, so sorry to bring it in.
There have been accidental outbreaks of SARS related to labs. There was one in Singapore that resulted in one infection (in a medical student) and one in China that involved eight people.
Why on earth would there be deliberate release of a bioweapon for which there is no defense in your own country?
Who says that they released it on purpose? Or. Maybe they figured, hey we are over populated, we have a billion people. We can afford to experiment a little.
And as we have two threads going on the same topic.......I will repeat World HEalth Organization is in China monitoring the situation and has positive remarks regarding the Chinese govts. handling of this health crisis.
Again -- this does not stir up the pot -- but it is what is happening.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday to discuss plans to contain the novel coronavirus. The two agreed that international experts would visit China to help investigate the situation and enhance the global response.
“WHO is working closely with the government on measures to understand the virus and limit transmission,” Tedros said.
He praised Chinese officials for sharing data about the virus, including its genetic sequence. “We appreciate the seriousness with which China is taking this outbreak,” he said.
World Health Organization is in China and working with the govt.
They seem to think the Chinese are doing a decent job of containing it.
THat doesn't fit the conspiracy stories or drama mamma scenarios though.
Yeah... I’m skeptical of the doomsday scenarios. Seems every couple years people freak out about a new virus. First it was SARS, then bird flu, then swine flu, then MERS, then Zika, then Ebola, and now this. I mean, not to minimize the horrible illness and deaths many people suffered (and still suffer in some areas) from these viruses, particularly from Ebola, but most did not meaningfully spread in the US, and those that did (I think swine flu?) ended up being not nearly as deadly as originally thought. Not to say this couldn’t be the “big one,” but it’s really too early to tell. No reason to freak out at the moment. Even if it spreads across the globe, it certainly doesn’t seem to be as deadly as the 1918 influenza virus.
I know you guys love conspiracy theories, but this virus it nothing new...It's just another animal virus that has mutated to infect humans. It has existed in various animals for a very long time.
The coronavirus family, a notorious group. The SARS epidemic of 2002-3, which infected 8,098 people worldwide, killing 774 of them, was caused by a coronavirus, and so was the MERS outbreak that began on the Arabian Peninsula in 2012 and still lingers (2,494 people infected and 858 deaths as of November).
