Everyone should pay the same amount. It's not fair to make a guy that owns a more expensive home to pay a higher bill.
But its fair to make somone pay for services they dont use? Its fair for the state to monopolize certain services and throw any would be compeitor into a cage? Gates, Zuckerburger, Muskie, et al. are green with envy
I think so, property taxes are all kinds of unethical and scummy.
Real Estate taxes keep your local area functioning. Sewer's, water supply, local roads and bridges, police, fire, Emt's. All paid from your real estate taxes as well as other areas.
As the GOP cut federal income taxes local municipalities get less Federal funds. As GOP cuts state income taxes local municipalities get less state funds.
Only thing left for local Govt is property, real estate taxes. So the GOP is the cause of rising sales, property, real estate taxes in your county, city or unincorporated area.

If so, shouldn’t all people pay the same amount?
They do pay at the same mil rate. The difference is the tax value of your property.
Most HOA's and COA's charge one rate for all owners and seem to get by.
Why local Govt could not figure out a rate for all to pay is beyond me.
Rate not equals amount.
