most of the numbers you see being reported are meaningless...

Because of this....

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...ting-data.html

It is unconscionable how far the US lags behind other countries in testing....

We really have NO idea how many people are infected in the US, testing is beginning to ramp up but it will be days/weeks before we really know the scope of the outbreak in the US

Through today the total number of tests run in the US are around 25000....for the entire US...25000

That is barely a drop in the bucket in a country of 330 million

I wonder how we will return to normal after this mess. I mean, all the other epidemics before were much less global. Now, however, with most of the world infected, how are we to determine that corona is over and done with? Opening borders could restart the whole cycle again.

I think I will be "toilet paper insecure" for a while...considering I have not been able to find any since Sunday.

I guess it might be interesting to play the "where did they get it from?" game, but by this point, just assume the virus is almost everywhere throughout the US. Don't panic, but wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap, avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth, and avoid people as much as you can.

It's not a matter of if you'll get infected, but it's just a matter of when!

It will take a vaccine and eventually we will grow more immune. Right now we are pretty much screwed.

My friend, who is 84 years old, is about to embark on a cross country journey with her 65 year old friend. They are in southern California and home is in Maryland. They were there visiting another friend of mine and are very nonchalant about the whole thing. They wanted to drive up the coast to Washington to sight see before heading East, but after much conversation, we have finally convinced them that they are putting themselves at risk, and nothing would be open anyway. We have finally convinced them they need to get on the road now. I wonder what cross country travel is like right now. I guess they're about to find out.
