In Belgium someone infected his cat, the first confirmed case of such a transmission. The virus was found in the animal's feces, the cat had difficulty breathing, in addition to vomiting and diarrhea.
Some very good news on testing - Abbott Labs has developed a rapid test that can be run using a small, portable device. The test is a "molecular test" picking up the virus itself, not the antibodies, allowing patients who actively have the disease to be distinguished, and it can produce a positive result in just 5 minutes or a negative result in just 15 minutes...
"The good news for availability of this test is that ID NOW, the hardware [platform] from Abbott that it runs on, already holds the largest molecular point-of-care footprint in the U.S., and is widely available across doctor’s offices, urgent care clinics, emergency rooms and other medical facilities."

They claim they will be ramping up to large numbers, but never say when. It's like the masks, great that millions will be made but we needed them yesterday. I'd like to see a fast test for antibodies. That will be the key to getting things back to normal or knowing if any reduction we see is just due to weather and distancing and the beast will return in October.
Trump said ‘anybody that wants a test’ for coronavirus can get one.
Trump said this on March 6th. A lie.
The CDC says health care providers are the ones who decide whether someone gets tested for coronavirus.
Factors clinicians should consider include whether individuals were in close contact with a lab-confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patient within 14 days of symptom onset, or traveled from affected geographic areas within 14 days of symptom onset.
Within minutes, Pence announced there are not enough tests.
Pence & Co seem to being doing the best they can with the hand they have been dealt, which includes damage control related to some of Trump’s public remarks.
The daily briefings have become political rallies. They demonstrate Trump’s personal journey on Mr Toads Wild (emotional) Ride.

"will begin production next week, with output of 50,000 per day possible starting next week... In total, Abbott now says that it believes it will produce 5 million tests in April, split between these new rapid tests and the lab tests that it received emergency use authorization for by the FDA on March 18."
Its difficult to understand DeSantis thought process, Florida with an aging population is far behind other states in taking action. That is about to change.
My county declined, on Friday, to impose the order, too. This includes no shutdown of non-essential businesses so we're still 'business as usual'.
The proposed list of exempt businesses is large, even if it does get passed.
The East Coast Miami/Dade and 2 continguous counties do account for half the cases in Florida though, the rest scattered so maybe, at this point, shutting down the whole state isn't called for ....yet?
But those east coast ones certainly should be.
What is not right about it? Highly contagious virus with a higher than flu mortality rate, threatens to overwhelm entire medical system with people seeking ICU, thus the reason to flatten the curve.
The US yesterday (March 27) recorded 401 deaths, up from 268 the day before, infections are rising quick also.
Confirmed infection rates are a result of testing which, right now, remains woefully inadequate.
Shortly, a simple anti- body blood test ( finger prick) will be available will determine who has antibodies (previous and current) infections to determine who is safe to go back to work and/ or continue to work.
A lot of global innovation is and will continue to come out of this pandemic.

Trump has obviously been lying casually, early and often, but he always does that. So far, testing capacity is still clearly inadequate, despite assurances from Trump that this was solved in the first week of March. If you ignore Trump's nonsense though, there are a lot of medical/technology companies working very hard on this, and we are making rapid progress.
