If a democrat was in office, and his actions and response times were the same, the leftist media would be hailing him as the savior of mankind.
It would be every bit as political if a Democrat were in office. If the "leftist media" were hailing a Dem POTUS as the savior of mankind, as you say, the Republicans would obstruct the POTUS every step of the way, as they did throughout Obama's administration. Business as usual.

This is supposed to be about coming together not further dividing.
Things are always political on some level. I do think that if this was a Dem president we wouldn't be seeing this level of nastiness. The Republicans would be playing games, no doubt. I just have never seen anything like what we have now. This hatred of Trump and the get him at all cost the media is displaying is just crazy. Bush didn't get it this bad and Obama mostly certainly didn't take a beating the way Trump is. I say this a person that isn't really a huge fan of Trump, but anyone with an ounce of objectivity could see it or least they should if they are being intellectually honest.
In other words it's supposed to be a certain type of political where everyone reaches across the aisle of partisanship and figures out whether we should be holding hands and spreading it to gain herd immunity or hiding in our houses and Zooming in.... Hmm. Hard to reconcile those two positions.
Remember back in the good old days when attacking a President's kids was considered off limits?
There should be some things that remain non partisan.
Otherwise, we're doomed.
Using a global pandemic as a political weapon is just an undeniable dick move.
It became political because the Chinese have allowed their cruel medieval type disease spreading markets to continue despite warnings in the past and diseases such as SARS.
The Chinese then tried to cover the whole thing up and prevented the world have much time to respond, whilst the World Heath Organisation have been pathetic in terms of offering proper advice or in helping with any global response and have even sided with the Chinese at times, and there have been calls for the WHO to be replaced with a new organisation outside of the UN remit.
It also became political because most countries were not prepared for a pandemic despite a history of pandemics over the centuries.
The countries that have coped best had better provision and organsation in terms of testing, equipment and hospital beds, and lessons are going to have to be learned in terms of national security reviews in many countries across the world.

I'll bet the British left and right are working far more cooperatively for the public good in the face of Covid-19 than the left and right are, or ever do, in the US. But, then again, most advanced countries' governments work together politically for the benefit of their respective countries better than does the US government, so that's not a risky bet.

The Democrats will never stop us from defeating the virus. The vaccine will be developed, manufactured in huge quantities and COVID-19 will become history while they endlessly point to America's shortcoming and declare that the vaccine is another right wing failure and is only meant to enrich the few and subjugate the masses.
