In times of desperation, you would be amazed what the mind can come up with, and having tried so many things to get Trump out of the white house, the dems failed on every count.
This had, in my mind, turned into desperation on the part of the democrats.
One had to look no further than the future economy of China, once Trump imposed stiff tariffs on them.
They needed a way to get him out before he could do any more damage.
That, along with the democrats failed attempts at making sure Trump doesn't win re-election was enough for both China, and some democrat leaders, along with their influential backers ,to come up with a plan that would be a saving grace for both.
Once the plan was put into action, our economy dropped like a lead balloon in a very short time, faster than it couldn't possibly have done in normal times.
For the most part, this didn't take brains, it took money, coercion, and timing.
Well, turn it around.
Trump proved such a failure at managing anything, let alone a genuine crisis, that conservatives are on a desperate campaign to prove it's someone else's fault. Anyone else's fault. Much like Trump himself as a matter of fact. After electing someone they thought would take everyone and everything firmly in hand, instead they heard their supposed strongman leader shrug and say "I take no responsibility at all."
For the most part, this isn't taking brains, it is taking (unceasing) repetition from voluntary shills.
So the Koch Brothers and Devos just sat back an let this happen. You still haven't explained how countries like Germany and South Korea survived.

What's preposterous is the media's narrative that the whole thing started with bats in the Wuhan "wet market" - when researchers found that there were never any bats in the Wuhan wet market.
