Second, there seems to be a new narrative that President Trump was enjoying wide-spread approval prior to the rise of the virus in January 2020. Of course, that is not true:

https://news.gallup.com/poll/203198/...ald-trump.aspx

Mr. Trump was in trouble politically even with a 'roaring economy'. Why do you think he was tweeting almost non-stop back then about how he deserves to be re-elected simply based on the economy? He knew it was his strong suit, but even then his disapproval rating was consistently in the 51 to 57 percent range. This with a good economy.

More than likely, if the virus had never arisen, Mr. Trump would still be facing pretty strong headwinds. Many people simply do not think he is competent. The rise of COVID 19 proved, again, that he is not competent. He simply denied that the virus would be a problem, claimed that it would magically disappear, told the States that obtaining medical equipment was up to them (causing the states to bid against each other, with the Federal government also bidding, and at times simply confiscating equipment purchased by a state).

Mr. Trump again proved his incompetence with the George Floyd situation. People took note of his 'photo op' nonsense at St. John's Episcopal church. His explanation about 'inspecting' the bunker was laughable.

Pulling us out of treaties; rolling back sound regulations concerning our environment; damaging our relationships with our Allies (did Mr. Trump take note of the D-Day anniversary yesterday? I did not see a tweet by him on this). Secret talks with President Putin (we only knew of the latest phone call with Mr. Putin when the Kremlin announced it; that same day, Mr. Trump spoke to the nation's governors, urging them to 'dominant' the protestors, a word he used 7 times in the conversation; did Mr. Putin use that word?).

I hope the economy continues to improve. As for the election, since Mr. Trump was in trouble before the onset of the virus, and then Mr. Floyd, I doubt his chances have improved.
That’s the point, Trump had a poor approval rating back in January why would anyone need to tank the economy to hurt Trump. He destroys his reputation quite well, he is his own worst enemy.

Are you talking huge spike locally or nationally? Dispite increased testing, the national rate is flat or slightly down for the past 5 weeks.

Not sure about national average, but Florida is seeing a big increase. We have had 1000+ new cases per day for four days in a row, and some counties are up as much as 260%, and deaths are up 90%.

That is his standard response. If you disagree with him, then he barks "you hate America". It gets old.

This was always going to be a short, steep recession like after 9/11. As soon as people could get back out it was going to turn around quickly.

We have 5 long months till election day, and a lot can happen. They have been predicting a second round of the virus in the fall, and that looks very likely now, given that people have relaxed all their precautions and are acting recklessly as if it never happened.

So, come November I bet we are seeing a huge increase in deaths and infections, which should impact Trump's chances.

That's a big IF.

Fortune 500 companies are laying off and furloughing people like crazy - beginning at the end of May.

We just lost 600 employees.

I hope it does come roaring back but I wouldn't be spiking the football just yet.

Hell its highly doubtful you’ve ever been arrested in your entire life.
If there was a recession, you and other liberals would be the first to blame Trump.

They should be worried about the Congressional hearings on the Obama administration and the spying on a presidential candidate.
