I struggle when someone talks about model anything. It so subjective to opinion. What is a model minority?

My daughters faced racism by Asiaphiles. You have some men can't spank to enough porn when they see an Asian woman walk by. Those guys just can't take no for an answer.

Some think that they are walking calculators. LOL. Or they automatically know Karate. Mine do, but not due to genetics. I started them at 5 and they had to go until 18. I pity the idiot that pushes their luck with them.

My son has faced racism from police and local hicks about his race. He handles it well, but make no mistake, there is a line.

So what is a model minority?

240 some years ago a bunch of people were smart enough to organize a unified nation. That nation now stretches sea to sea and the people have enacted laws to make it a better place for everyone. Some of those laws include ones on immigration.

If the First Emigrants had been organized enough they might have done something similar.

But they didn't.

There is an unbelievable amount of racism toward Asians.
It's just a "nicer" form of racism. Polite racism to oppress Asians.
Not 'racial profiling police abuse' form of racism, but racism nonetheless.

Asians have been treated like crap ever since they set foot in America.... from the railroad days onward.

Black people have been treated like crap long before that, and they stood up and fought back.

It would be better if the "model minority" Asians did the same... because even with the hard work, minding their own business, letting things be... they're getting far less than what they put in; the crap end of the stick.
I accept that there will always be racism. Human beings are very visual animals, so... so what if someone has a problem with Asians?

Just as I reserve the right to judge each person I meet as an individual and decide if they deserve respect from me, I allow others the right to judge me as an individual. What do I care if a non-Asian decides that he doesn't like most Asians? It doesn't hurt my feelings in any way.

I also don't care if not all men find me attractive as an Asian female. Everyone is entitled to their unique tastes in romantic partners. I am not going to consider a man racist, just because he doesn't find Chinese women physically attractive. As for me, I don't consider myself racist if I don't find most black men physically attractive as a romantic partner.

And as a co-worker, no matter what anyone's prejudices about the Chinese, I want to be judged for myself, and not my race. But I will prove my worth through my actions and stellar work ethic.

I see no need to protest and carry signs saying Chinese Lives Matter. Or throw a public tantrum. That would be just plain stupid and unproductive.

there's a clear and distinct difference between regional and ethnic accents, and speaking like an uneducated moron because it's not cool in the 'hood to speak white.
and you wonder why blacks are stereotyped and a lot of opportunities are closed off to them? appearance is your first impression. speech is second.

recent immigrants can speak intelligible english within years of coming here, and children of these immigrants speak perfect english without an accent. there is no reason why black americans can't speak proper english when their families have been here for as many generations as they have.

black athletes spoke proper english up until the 1980's. was there some speech rebellion that happened in from the 80s into the 90s?

Why do you care how they speak in the hood? Why would you care if a black person speaks one way with you at work and another way at home/in a casual setting?

i personally don't care. i'm just saying if they want the rest of america to not view them as hoodlums, and if they want to be taken seriously in the professional working world, then they should speak proper english.

the problem is that hoodrats don't have this on/off switch, and quite frankly, neither do most blacks in america( of course educated blacks are much less egregious).

lemme axe you this. why wouldn't you want to speak proper english? how does it benefit one to speak the black vernacular?
as a non-black person, i only see the downsides and no upsides at all.

Utter nonsense. Aside from Jewish Americans, there is no more successful group of people anywhere in the world than Asian Americans. Asians have flourished in the United States.

Black vernacular reduces the attractiveness of job candidates and many people do not successfully transition back and forth between Standard English and the Black version.

We care because of the overwhelming numbers on TANF, SNAP, WIC, Disability, etc. in poor Black neighborhoods.

All of us want to see them succeed because we are collectively supporting them until that time.

I've avoided posting anything on social media regarding police, BLM or the riots. I could get accused of being an angry Black man and an Uncle Tom all at once.

I first learned of the term "model minority" in high school. I learned about it from an encyclopedia. The idea was that Asians got acceptance and respect through hard work. Over the years I've learned that it's used mainly for the purpose of enforcing the idea of "Blacks are inferior" or "Hispanics are inferior".

I didn't know that your daughters would go through that. But then, it's not surprising. I knew one guy who did the same thing to a Hispanic woman. The guy I'm speaking of basically approached that woman in a lewd manner, basically fetishizing her. Let's just say they never became friends.

I suspect that those Asiaphiles don't get that Asia is a huge continent, and not everyone who comes from Asia looks like Jackie Chan or Lucy Liu. Or that there are several kinds of martial arts that come from different parts of the Asian continent. Okinawa has karate (I used to take karate, and I'm trying to get back into it again). South Korea has Taekwondo. The Philippines has escrima. Indonesia has puncak silat. China has kung fu. Israel has krav magah. India has kalaripayattu. Alot of those Asiaphiles likely don't understand why Japan and South Korea often have students scoring high on tests. And it has nothing to do with genetics.

I get having to deal with people looking at you or someone else as nothing more than a stereotype. I knew a few White females in high school who exclusively dated Black guys. I figured out why none of them ever had any interest in dating me. I wasn't "thug" enough. I wasn't a "baller". They wanted the thugs, roughnecks, and bad boys. I was basically the nerdy kid who read alot of books. It also clued me in as far as being fetishized. I've also met a few people who were in complete shock when they could see that I didn't speak Ebonics, or that I wasn't what they expected when it came to seeing Black people. I remember one person, upon hearing me talk, said "you're the whitest black guy I've ever met". I couldn't believe he could be that ignorant. I've run into individuals who have treated me like I was a threat, and I've dealt with individuals who expected me to know how to play basketball (I played baseball growing up).

I think about how the term "model minority" is used. It's a way of saying "people who don't complain or who just accept that they will deal with racism". It's used as a racial wedge.
