Their mayors are keeping their schools either partially or completely closed in the fall. The constituents are doing nothing to override those decisions.
Do you try to override every legal decision that you don't agree with? Your opinion doesn't matter more than the opinion of the other 5.3 million registered voters in NYC. Some agree, some disagree, some have no opinion. Smart people work within whatever information and constraints they are given. And they are.
Duh, because some people want B&M schools. There is a large percentage of homeless, poor families and parents that don't speak English that rely on pubic school.
Ah... so Dems/left are perfectly fine with disadvantaging the poor, special ed, and ESL students by keeping B&M schools closed or only partially open. Got it.
One of the greatest tragedies of this situation is that it will be the poor, special ed, and ESL students who are hurt the most by the left's insistence on keeping B&M schools closed.
Lefties/Dems, consider very carefully whether that's a desirable result.

I changed IL State Law to unshackle the legal restrictions the ISBE (Illinois State Board of Education) placed on highly achieving students by refusing to count B&M high school credits earned before 9th grade towards high school graduation requirements. In one of the most contentious ILGA sessions, ever, I got a unanimous yea vote for this:

The "anti-homeschool Left" is opposed to people keeping their kids home in order to indoctrinate them in a worldview where science is considered Satanic, and to prepare their kids for a literal armageddon and the return of Jesus Christ to kill all unsaved people.
The pro-homeschool Left wants their children to live and not pick up deadly diseases that can be passed on to other family members, and to continue learning at home with a teacher-guided curriculum that prepares them to compete with the rest of the world and not turn the US into a backwater theocracy like Iran.
