Last year professional sports had a net positive favorability with 45% approving, 30% neutral, and 25% disapproving - for a net +20%.

This year professional sports has a net negative favorability for the first time ever. 30% approve, 29% are neutral, and 40% disapprove - for a net -10%.

That is a net 30% drop in one year.

Is it possible that some people watch sports to escape the monotony of day to day life like the 24-7 in your face politics and don't appreciate it when sports get too political?

Messages of "Defund the Police" in a sports game isn't appealing to most viewers. In fact 73% of Americans want the same or more funding for police, including most black Americans. The only group that has a majority in favor of defunding police are people who describe themselves as "very liberal."

Supporting BLM, which is a diverse group that reality must admit includes not just peaceful people, but rioters, extremists, and people attacking white people in restaurants.

Pushing the Michael Brown "Gentle Giant" "hands up don't shoot" lie.

The NBA losing its mind over a GM correctly pointing out that Hong Kong is oppressed by China.

The NBA has millionaire players wearing 1 time use jerseys made in a sweatshop by an exploited worker who is allowed to be very political about how he is oppressed, but that same player will freak out if you mention that China literally has concentration camps for the Uighur minorities and the NBA is cool with that $$$.

Kaepernick praising a cop killer on the FBI's most wanted list and doing more and then the sports media pretending it was only about kneeling.

Calls for more affirmative action in society across the board - what about affirmative action to make players in the NBA or NFL more diverse? The NHL and MLB have spent millions trying to spread the sport into inner cities.

Is it any wonder why viewership is down?

Sorry, in the long run, the biggest sports are going to come out on top with this SJW woke nonsense. I hate it too but the money is in wokeness and other SJW stupidity.

Think of it as a feedback loop being pushed sports>big media>big corporatism then back to sports. Look at Nike Sept 2018 and their support of Kappernick. The stock went down for a whole 3-4 months. They are back and much higher now.

Smaller sports like Nascar may take longer to recover but the biggies like the NFL will be fine by 2022 and probably 2021.

People must accept that sometimes bad people win. Life is not a Lifetime Channel movie.

People who have stopped watching sports will often say they stopped because it got too political. Articles and news reports that focus on the loss of viewership will not even consider that as a possible reason and will explore all other possibilities. Truth is it's probably a mixed bag but politics fatigue plays a not insignificant role in it. Another factor is that people have had to go without sports for months now and many have discovered they can do just fine without it. The two factors probably play off of each other to some degree as well. Learning to live without sports give people less patience for the political preaching.

Of sports fans that have said they watch less NBA, 39% said it was because the NBA is too political, 19% said it was because of the NBA's China stance. That is basically 58% of people watching less NBA saying they are doing so, because the NBA is too political.

Getting use to watching less sports is one thing during the shutdown, but that doesn't make people "disapprove" of sports or lose "approval of sports" either.

I heard the NFL fans booed the players’ kneeling and other BLM displays.

You've said this in a number of threads about sports but I still say you're being a negative Nancy. Maybe all sports will bounce back to be even more profitable than ever or maybe not but in the end those who walk away when they've had enough of the bullcrap will be better off.

Maybe sports will continue to prosper with a new audience, but then again maybe not. Sports kept a lot of people from cutting the cable cord and now they are discovering that all that extra money they're paying each month isn't worth paying to watch sports being played by people who openly and actively dislike them. And younger people often don't watch cable to begin with.

If the major leagues ever smarten up and form their own streaming services instead of bundling everything in to cable packages they better realize that the people who will shell out money for that stuff are also disproportionately the kind of people who don't go for that woke BS. Especially if they plan to charge a premium, which they undoubtedly will. Younger folks might buy Nike shoes for fashion's sake but they won't shell out big money to watch their father's favorite sports team.

Glad sports is falling.

What they need to do is create stricter requirements for becoming a police officer and pay them more.

Michael Brown likely charged that officer. The video in the store showed his demeanor. I will never understand why people were so up-in-arms over him.

But your claim about flying the African-American flag inaccurate. It was called to be added to a list of flags being flown, including various Native American flags and other flags of immigrants.

Haven’t heard anything about affirmative action. There have just been the typical complaints about it which have existed since its inception.

I edited out the inaccuracy. I will take your word on that. Thanks.

I don't think pro-sports is failing. But they will take a hit in the wallet for at least the short term.

You’re welcome. As for sports, maybe that will change the focus of some younger black boys. If you feel that people see you differently and don’t value your life as much, why entertain them? Change your focus.
