Politically I think its a good move for Biden. I could not vote because I vote Libertarian. Personally I would like medicare and SS abolished along with the federal income tax and all the withholding from income but Democrats and Republicans like those programs and tax revenue. Being 56 I would personally benefit from it being lowered in theory. If both parties want to just give money away why not then.

It looks like the Republican lawsuit to kill the ACA will be ruled on shortly after the election by the Supreme Court. My wife could lose her coverage immediately. Our situation is not unique, there are many like us.
There was no reason that your wife wasn't able to obtain coverage as you losing your job is one of the conditions that allows her to obtain her own insurance outside the enrollment period. The problem with this is - at least my understanding - the rates are decided on your previous year's tax return amt and that's where people in our position get it up the shorts because we aren't making the income we did the previous year due to the change in income.
The ACA was pushed through never considering many of these situations and why it does need to be overhauled.
Joe Biden has said he wants to see Medicare eligibility lowered from 65 to 60. Do you support that? Would you support that if Trump supported it? What if it meant your side (whichever side that is) would win more elections?
The GOP has shown that they don't care about deficits since Trump took office, in fact, they support another $2 trillion stimulus right before the election. And they know the 60+ age bracket tends to be reliable voters. Does that figure into the calculation?
We also know that most Medicare recipients have not paid for the benefits they receive. They depend on current workers paying into the system.
"Few seniors have actually paid for their Medicare benefits. According to an Urban Institute estimate, the typical retired couple paid $122,000 in lifetime Medicare taxes but can expect to receive benefits worth $387,000. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...cial-security/
Does that matter to voters?
Stealing other people's money to pay for someone else.
No.
I don't care who proposed it.
I don't like public schools.
I don't like government welfare.
I don't like federal income tax.
I don't like Medicare or Medicaid.
I don't like Social Security.
I don't like "free breakfast and lunch" in schools.
I don't like business bail outs. Let them fail, allow others to rise.
The federal government should not be this large.
State governments shouldn't be stealing from one to give to another, either.
All of those people who claim that they "care" about the poor, can open their wallets, donate to charity organizations, and feel good about themselves.
The left likes to state that the majority of people in this country are "not Republicans".
The left likes to state that only they care about the poor.
The left likes to state that they are far more wealthy and educated than Republicans.
The left likes to state that the right is "the most poor".
Then the left can shut the hell up, open up their wallets, and donate to charity organizations. Less talk about what they "care" about, and more actions to prove that they care by using their own money!

If they lower it, lot of people will retire at 60, but will probably not consume much of the benefits because 60 yr olds are still at a healthy age. So, money-wise the impact would be minimal.
For many people the Medicare benefits are the only reason to not retire early. I say let them retire, and open up those job positions for the younger people.
I would like it to be a buy-in option at 60. I think it would make early retirement easier for me and I'm sure many others. And I suspect if enough folks were able to retire early as a result it could help the economy since folks that can retire early have the savings to do so. Early retirement would get those savings spent 5 years earlier and provide opportunities for promotion for other workers.
I would go along with this. Or lower the age to 62.
Whoa whoa - what happened? This poll shows more Biden voters than Trump voters here? I don't believe it! That's crazy. Nearly any poll is Trump/Not-Trump about 66/33.
And more importantly, why are so many people in favor of a socialist program? I thought socialism was bad. Yet, here we are - Medicare for people aged 60 seems to have surprising support on this very conservative forum. Weird.
For those of you that don't support gradually lowering the Medicare age, an actual program that works fairly well and to some extent controls our ridiculous healthcare costs, what is your suggestion to control our corrupt healthcare system?

Maybe it shows the proposal would have bipartisan support.
You can call social services "socialist programs" all day long, but hardly any retiree can afford to pay for private insurance + copays + deductibles out of their monthly income.
