Because while the risk is reduced, the virus molecule itself has no trouble going through masks. It doesn't seem to have issues traveling more than 6 feet. Sure, nobody can sneeze on me or INITIALLY project their molecules as far as they could unmasked, but their exhalations still come out from behind their masks in a diffused area around their head. The mask does nothing but change the shape and distance of the initial area of effect. Instead of the claymore directing the blast in a cone, you have a standard grenade that has a spherical AoE, with the center point being each person's head. No matter what though, each exhalation is going to the environment. Whatever they are exhaling...it's in the atmosphere, and like odor molecules and fresh freaking air, even with a mask on, you are breathing that air.

Real quick guide to entropy here - the gas phase of matter is most chaotic. It follows the least amount of order within it's container. For the open atmosphere, the numerical value for that amount of order is essentially zero. Point being, it doesn't need linear pathways within 6 feet to move about. Gas molecules bounce around and do whatever they want. So if the molecule comes out the side of a mask or directly from the mouth of the unmasked heathen, the gas molecule is in the open, no boundary container called "the atmosphere. And while you may not be within 6 feet at the point of one exhalation at the moment it occurs, entropy says you are never NOT within 6 feet of a prior exhalation.

And if your mask stopped that evil water droplet with its nefarious covid payload...that payload is on your mask. You know that mask, the one you wear every day for a month like everyone else because really, you are going through a new mask every 4 hours? No, you aren't, and neither is anyone else. We are all reusing these placebo virtue signalers for at least a few days to a week, if not longer...so anything that mask blocked IS ON THE MASK. Are you really following NBC anti-contamination protocols every time you mask and unmask? I'll tell you right now that you aren't because these masks aren't NBC or even decently anti-pollution compliant. They are nothing more than salad bar anti-sneeze guards writ large (and insane).

This leads back to my question and overall point - how do you even evaluate these mandated covid defenses when they cannot stop the virus itself? If you see the maskless person, sure, fine them, cage them, whatever. But if you go anywhere with any sort of recirculated atmosphere (ex-submariner here, I know how recirculated environments work), the rule for "you did walk directly into a prior exhalation, at least a few thousand times since you set foot inside this enclosed atmosphere" is in effect ALWAYS, and unless your "mask" is an NBC compliant artificial enclosed atmosphere, you are, in fact, inhaling a few thousand prior exhalations with every single breath and that mask isn't stopping a freaking thing.

Logical conclusion - the only way you stop this thing with government force is total shut down and 100% absolute quarantine like out of some dystopian fiction. Nobody leaves their home for 3 weeks. Not even to go out to the front yard. Anything less fails, because entropy and the nature of the gas phase of matter say lol, good luck stopping teeny tiny gas molecules from going wherever chaos takes them.

Until then, masks are a tool for government to test how easily they can control the population and have zero to do with stopping covid.

We still get back to the dynamics of those pesky larger droplets because that is where the concentration of viral particles is highest. It is about reducing, not eliminating, the amount of virus in the air space. The virus does not travel attached to gas molecules.

That is why an additional level of attack on the problem of aerosolized smaller droplets indoors is to increase air circulation and adopt methods to disinfect the air, particularly as it goes through HVAC systems, such as by installing UV lights and using HEPA filters. Hospital infection isolation rooms are designed to vent air from the room to the outside through negative pressure systems.

On an individual basis all that can be done is to limit the amount of time spent in crowded, enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces. wear masks and distance from other people as best you can.

There really is no conspiracy to use masks to "test how easily they can control the population". Masks are not perfect but they do help.
