I said nothing about Howard restricting white students. You are making things up. Stop.
It is simply a question of NUMBERS.
Howard markets to 12% of the population. They do not dissuade the other 88%, but barely any of that sector desires to attend Howard. Howard draws from what is ever-increasingly a niche market.
Furthermore, black students have long had options beyond Howard and other HCBUs, so a good many smart kids who would have gone to Howard 50 years ago no longer do.
Whatever. If Howard is comfortable remaining an HCBU and continuing that mission, so be it. It's an anachronism, but one that continues to function. Such things do not fade easily. And if their BOT and alums are happy, then all the better. Not to mention that part of the Howard experience is firmly rooted in it being mostly African-American.
But... the NUMBERS are just that. And they will continue to work against Howard and other HCBUs.
HBCU means HISTORICALLY Black College or University. Even if a school became very mixed, it will still be an HBCU.
Anyway, Howard has also drawn “Black” people from around the world for some time now. So they are not AA, even if American categories place them there. In fact, I remember their application having AA, Caribbean/West-Indian, African etc. Howard’s reputation goes before them.
What would happen if a young white person really took the "racial reckoning" to heart and dedicated herself to being the most informed, enthusiastic, and authentically woke ally she could possibly be, to the point of transferring so she could finish her degree at an HBCU?

"HBCU" is simply a classification and not necessarily in the title of the campus. For example, Florida A&M University is commonly listed as "FAMU" and not "FAMHBCU." Furthermore, there are at least two HBCUs that are now predominantly white (both located in West Virginia).
